, October, in the thirty-sixth year of the Independence of the United States of America, Increase Cooke, of the said District, hath deposited in this office the title of a book, the right whereof he claiins as author, in the words following, to wit, « The American Orator, or elegant extracts in prose and poetry, comprehending a diversity of oratorical specimens of the eloquer.ce of popular assemblies, of the bar, of the pulpit, &c. principally intended for the use of schools and academies. To which are prefixed a dissertation on oratorical delivery, and the outlines of ges ure.By Increase Cooke-There is as much eloquence in the tone of voice, in the look, and in the gesture of an orator, as in the use of his words."---In conformity to the act of the Congress of the United States, entitled, “ An act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned.”'
