What express companies run on your road, and on what terms, and what conditions as to rates, etc.; what kind of business is done by them, and do you take their freights at the depot or at the office of such express company? The American Express Company, and Pacific Express Company. Business is handled by agents of express companies from depots of railroad company. Each company pays H. & S. R. R. Co. a monthly rental of $226 för privilege of doing business on the line.

UNITED STATES MAIL IN IOWA.

What is the compensation paid you by the United States government for the transportation of its mails on your road in Iowa, and on what terms of service? $42.75 per annum per mile of road. Mail is carried on one train each way daily, except Sunday. The railroad company delivers mail at all post offices within 80 rods of its depots.

What amount have you paid for receiving and delivering mail to and from stations on your road in Iowa? $659.55.

Train thrown from track at end of bridge; rail removed maliciously by persons unknown; verdict of coroner's jury in accordance with above-killed instantly, crushed under the engine.

Fell from train by his own carelessness; slightly bruised by rolling against car trucks-no bones broken. Was leaning from side of tender of engine; struck side of bridge and was thrown to ground; carelessness-broke left leg.
