ExPLANATION of the Causes of Variation between Expenditure and Grant. A.—Due to the amalgamation of the posts of House Governor and Medical Superintendent and to the substitution of female for male labour in the Subordinate Staff. B.—Requirements under-estimated. D.—Changes in the Staff, effected after this Estimate was framed, reduced requirements under the head of “Victualling,” and the expenditure on drugs and medical stores was less than had been anticipated. E.—See Statement of New Works. F.—Casual Variation. G.—Casual Variation. H.—Saving due to the mildness of the winter, and consequent decrease in the consumption of fuel. I.—Casual Wariation. J.--The receipts from Patients were in excess of anticipation. ExTRA REMUNERATION. The present House Governor received from this Vote a gratuity of 40l. for acting in a temporary capacity prior to the date of his appointment.
