G. REDWAY The “ Turba Philosophorum " is considered to be the oldest treatise on Alchemy extant. Although this translation is from the Latin, it is supposed that originally it was compiled in Hebrew or Arabic. Of the two codices known, Mr. Waite's translation is from the longer ; but variations of the second recension are given in foot-notes. M. Berthelot's text and translation of the Byzantine Alchemists has been largely made use of. The chief printed versions of the " Turba Philosophorum " are those of the “Theatrum Chemicum," the “ Bibliotheca Chemica Curiosa," and the smaller collection entitled, “Artis Auriferæ Tractatus.” In the "Theatrum Chemicum " and Magnetics are to be found colloquies, commentaries, and enigmas
which pretend to elucidate the “ Turba." 3728 Walks round auchterarder. 64 pp. Illus. Sq. 32mo, 1896, cloth, 9d. ; cloth limp, 6d.

WILLIAMS & NORGATE The author's contention is that there can be no true originality. Creation in the strictest sense is impossible. No man can create what never was, he is only capable of imitative production. Thus originality consists in nothing more nor less than restating the Idea, which eternally is. Change in form is practically all that genius
can accomplish. * These books can be inspected by the public, free, at the Publishers' Permanent Book Exhibition, 10, Bloomsbury Street, London, W.C.
