A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF LOWELL THE series of bibliographies of great American authors in special limited editions, which was initiated last year by Messrs. Houghton, Mifflin and Company with the Bibliography of Nathaniel Hawthorne, will include in the present publishing season a Bibliography of the Writings of James Russell Lowell. This Bibliography has been compiled by George Willis Cooke, one of the most expert of literary workers in the field of American, and especially New England, literature. It is as complete as it can be made, containing a list of all of Lowell's scattered writing in prose and verse, much of which has never been collected. It also contains an elaborate list of everything that can be discovered in print about Lowell of the slightest interest to student or collector, and there is a special section devoted to Lowell manuscripts. Every care has been taken with the arrangement of the Bibliography to make it as simple and effective as possible in the hands of the literary student and investigator, while the special needs of the book collector have been observed in the careful information which has been given in regard to valuable first editions, auction sale prices, etc., etc. The volume contains a photogravure portrait and is printed on an all-rag paper made specially for the series. The leaves are entirely uncut, and the volume is bound in a smooth, dark, English cloth, with paper label. The printing, as in the case of the Bibliography of Hawthorne, is on one side of the leaves only, thus leaving each alternate page blank for any notes or comments which the owner may care to add. The edition will consist of 530 numbered copies, of which 500 will be for sale at $5.00, net, postpaid. The plates will be destroyed on the completion of the printing and no other edition will be issued.
