And he faid to them, if I tell you, you will not believe me if I also afk, you will not anfwer me, nor dismiss me, But from henceforth the Son of Man fhall be fitting on the right hand of the power of God. And they all faid, art thou then the Son of God? Who faid, you fay, that I am. And they faid, what need we any farther teftimony? For ourfelves have heard from his own mouth. And all the multitude of them rifing up, led him to Pilate. And they began to accufe him, faying, we have found, this man fubyerting our nation, and prohibiting to give tributes to Cæfar, and faying, that he is Chrift the King. And Pilate asked him, faying, art thou the King of the Jews? But he anfwering, faid, thou fayeft it. And Pilate faid to the chief priests and multitudes, I find no caufe in this man. But they were the more earneft, faying, he ftirs up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee even hither. But Pilate hearing of Galilee, asked if the man were of Galilee: and when he understood that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he fent him back to Herod who was alfo himself at Jerufalem in thofe days. And Herod feeing Jefus, was very glad; for he defired a long time to fee him, becaufe he heard many things of him, and hoped to fee fome fign

wrought by him. And he asked him in many words. But he answered him nothing. And there ftood the chief priests and the fcribes conftantly accufing him. And Herod, with his army, defpifed him; and he mocked him, putting on him a white garment, and fent him back to Pilate. And Herod and Pilate were made friends that day: for before they were enemies one to another. And Pilate calling together the chief priests and magiftrates, and the people faid to them, You have prefented to me this man, as perverting the people; and behold, I examing him before you, have found no caufe in this man, of these things whereof you accufe him: No, nor Herod neither; for I fent you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done by him, I will chaftife him therefore, and difmifs him. And he was of neceffity to releafe to them one on the festival day. But the whole multitude together cried out, faying, Difpatch him, and releafe to us Barabbas who was, for a certain fedition made in the city, and

fpoke to them, defirous to releafe Jefus. But they cried again, faying, Crucify, crucify him. And he the third time, faid to them, Why, what evil has this man done? I find no caufe of death in him. I will correct him therefore, and let him go. But they were inftant with loud voices, requiring, that he might be crucified.

And their voices prevailed. And Pilate adjudged their petition to be done, and he releafed unto them, him that for murder and fedition had been caft into prifon whom they demanded; but Jefus he delivered to their pleasure. And when they led him forth, they took one Simon of Cyrene coming from the country; and they laid the cross upon him to carry after Jefus. And there followed him a great multitude of people, and women, who bewailed and lamented him. But Jefus turning to them faid, Daughters of Jerufalem, weep not for me, but for yourselves. and for your children. For behold the days fhall come, wherein they will fay, Bleffed are the barren, and the wombs that have not born, and the paps that have not given fuck. Then fhall they begin to fay to the mountains, fall upon us; and to the hills, cover us. For if in the green wood they do these things, what will be done in the dry? And there were led alfo two other malefactors with him to be executed. And after they came to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the thieves, one on the right-hand, and the other on the left. And Jefus faid, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. But they dividing his garments, did caft lots. did caft lots. And the people ftood looking on and the princes with them, derided him, faying, Others he has faved, let him fave himself, if this be Chrift the

Elect of God. And the foldiers alfo mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, faying, If thou be the King of the Jews fave thyfelf. And there was alfo a. fuperfcription writ over him in Greek and Latin, and Hebrew letters, This is the King of the Jews. And one of thofe thieves that were hanged, blafphemed him, faying, If thou be Chrift fave thyfelf and us.

But the other answering, rebuked him faying, Neither doft thou fear God, whereas thou art under the fame condemnation: and we indeed juftly; for we receive what is worthy of our deeds; but this man has done no evil. And he faid to Jefus, Lord, remember me, when thou comeft into thy kingdom. And Jefus faid to him, Amen I fay to thee, this day thou fhalt be with me in paradife. And it was almoft the fixth hour; and there came darkness upon the whole earth until the ninth hour. And the fan was darkened, and the veil of the Temple was rent in the midft. And Jefus crying out with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commend my fpirit. And faying this, HE GAVE UP THE GHOST. And the Centurion feeing what was done, glorified God, faying, Verily thisman was juft. And all the multitude of them that were prefent together at that fight, and faw the things that were done, returned knocking their breafts, and all his acquaintance ftood afar off, and the women that had followed him from Galilee, feeing these things.

And behold, a man named Jofeph (who was an officer, a good man and just; he had not confented to their counfel and doings) of Arimathea, a city of Jewry, who alfo himself expected the kingdom of God. This man came to Pilate and asked the body of Jefus, and taking it down, wrapt it in fine linen, and laid it in a monument hewed of ftone wherein never yet any man had been laid.

T that time Jefus went forth with his difciples beyond the torrent Cedron, where there was a garden, into which he entered, and his difciples. And Judas alfo that betrayed him, knew the place; because Jefus had often reforted thither, together with his difciples. Judas therefore having received a band of men and minifters, from the chief priests, and pharifees, comes thither with lanterns, and torches, and weapons. Jefus therefore knowing all things. that were to come upon him, went forth, and, faid to them, Whom feek ye? They answered him; Jefus of Nazareth. Jefus faid to them, I am he. And Judas also that betrayed him. ftood with them. As foon therefore, as he faid to them, I am he, they reeled backward, and fell to the ground. Again therefore he asked them, Whom feek ye?
