ways and repent of all his sins; help him to form good resolves for the time to come, and give him grace to fulfil the same. Deeply impress upon his mind that all things are given to change and to decay in this uncertain world, and that none can tell, save thou alone, what a day may bring forth ; so that knowing himself in the midst of life to be in death, he may alway live to thy service, having his lamp trimmed, and his light burning, like unto one who watcheth the coming of his Lord; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Saviour. Amen.

Almighty and most merciful God, graciously A Prayer look upon the condition of this thy servant after childnow in weak estate, and as thou hast begun a good work in her, giving her safe deliverance in the time of child-birth, continue, we pray thee, thy loving kindness, that she may recover her strength and be raised up again to render praises and thanksgivings for all thy great goodness vouchsafed unto her in the time of pain and travail; and grant that she may ever faithfully serve thee here, and finally

attain to thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for one in despair.

O Almighty and most merciful God, who understandest all the thoughts of man, pitifully regard the enlarged sorrows of our brother's heart; fear and dread are come upon him, the gates of mercy he doth imagine to be closed against his prayers, the blood of Christ to have been shed for him in vain, and that the Advocate with thee, O Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, no longer pleads in his behalf. Oh, save him, Lord Almighty, from such unholy thoughts, and for thy dear Son's sake remove from him all despair, banish every doubtful and desponding thought, give him the comfort of thy Holy Spirit, enlarge his heart with faith and hope, and be unto him his light and his salvation, his confidence and trust; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, three Persons but one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, Maker, Redeemer, and Sanctifier of mankind, have mercy upon this miserable sinner, and spare him, through the blood of the Lamb. Remember not his childish follies, nor the lusts and wilfulness of his riper years, neither bring him into condemnation for the same.

Spare him, good Lord. Remember not the wicked thoughts of his heart, nor the iniquity of his tongue, nor the offences of his hands, and from the punishment thereof,

Good Lord, deliver him. Remember not how he has wasted both time and talents, neglected thine ordinances, despised the means of grace, and omitted the duties of prayer and praise ; and from the sentence of the slothful and wicked servant,

Good Lord, deliver him. By thy great and unknown sufferings, by thy death upon the cross, by thy mediation and prevailing intercession, and by the help and comforts of the Holy Ghost,

Good Lord, deliver him. From the snares of Satan and the powers of darkness, from despair and all perplexity, from all pain and sickness, from the terrors of death, and from the wrath of the Lamb in the last day,

Good Lord, deliver him. We, miserable sinners, humbly pray to thee in behalf of this our brother, and beseech thee that it may please thee to save and defend him, to be merciful unto him, and to pardon all his transgressions; and not to call him to account for his sins of ignorance and infirmity;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord. That it may please thee favourably to regard his present visitation, to enable him to form holy resolutions, to give him an increase of faith, hope, and charity, to bestow on him that peace which the world cannot give, and finally to give unto him a crown of life and everlasting joy;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord. ( Lamb of God that takest away the sins of the world, Both now and ever have mercy upon

Never man spake like this Man. John vii. 46.

The duty of acting up to our Christian profession, which requires both faith and works, and watching thereunto with all perseverance, lest the door of repentance be shut against us; set forth by our Blessed Saviour under

The Parable of the Ten Virgins.* Matt. xxv. 1-14.

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, , and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And
