116. Rejoicing and Praise. 1 HEAD of the church triumphant, We joyfully adore thee; Till thou appear, thy members here Shall sing like those in glory: We lift our hearts and voices With blest anticipation, And cry aloud, and give to God The praise of our salvation. While in affliction's furnace, And passing through the fire, Thy love we praise, which knows no days, And ever brings us nigher: The love divine, which made us thine, Can keep us thine for ever. 3 Thou dost conduct thy people Through torrents of temptation, Nor will we fear, while thou art near, The fire of tribulation; The world, with sin and Satan, In vain our march opposes; By thee we shall break through them all, And sing the song of Moses. 4 By faith we see the glory, To which thou shalt restore us; The cross despise, for that high prize, Which thou hast set before us; And if thou count us worthy, We each, as dying Stephen, Shall see thee stand at God's right hand, To take us up to heaven. 140 HIGHGATE. 5. 11. b4 Come, let us a- rise, And aim at the prize, 3 We rest on his word, We shall be restored 4 Then let us not stop, But continue in hope, Rejoicing, till all in his image wake up. 5 His purity share, His character bear, And the truth of his hallowing promise declare. 6 Thus, thus let us stay, And wait for the day When the angels are sent to conduct us away: 7 When with joy we remove, To our brethren above, To his image, the servant shall be And fly up to heaven in a chariot as his Lord. of love. |
