He is mine too; be not near me,
I may weep, but you muft go.

Tho' this flow'ry season woes you
To the peaceful fports of May,
And love fighs fo long to lose you,
Love to glory must give way.

Britain's fons can never fail her,
While her daughters prove fo true;

Your foft courage fires each failor,
We love honour loving you.

War and danger now invite us,
Blow, ye winds! aufpicious blow;
Ev'ry gale fhall moft delight us
That fhall waft us to our foe.

SONG 85.

DAMON AND FLORELLA.

Damon.

CAST, my love, thine eyes around,

See the sportive lambkins play; Nature gayly decks the ground,

All in honour of the May; Like the fparrow and the dove, Liften to the voice of Love.

Florella.

Damon, thou haft found me long
Lift'ning to thy foothing tale;
And thy foft perfuafive fong

Often held me in the dale :
Take, O Damon! while I live,
All that virtue ought to give.

Damon.

Not the verdure of the grove,
Nor the gardens' faireft flow'rs,
Nor the meads where lovers rove,
Tempted by the vernal hours,
Can delight thy Damon's eye
If Florella is not bye.

Florella.

Not the water's gentle fall

By the bank, with poplars crown'd, Not the feather'd fongfters all,

Nor the flute's melodious found,

Can delight Florella's ear

If her Damon is not near.

Both.

Let us love, and let us live,

Like the chearful season gay;
and let us give

Banish care,

Tribute to the fragrant May; Like the fparrow and the dove Listen to the voice of love.

SONG 86.

How pleasant a failor's life paffes,

Who roams o'er the watery main ! No treasure he ever amaffes,

But chearfully fpends all his gain.
We're ftrangers to party and faction,
To honour and honefty true,

And would not commit a base action,
For power or profit in view.

Then why should we quarrel for riches,
Or any fuch glittering toys?

A light heart and a thin pair of breeches
Goes thorough the world, brave boys.

The world is a beautiful garden,
Enrich'd with the bleffings of life,
The toiler with plenty rewarding;
Which plenty too often breeds ftrife.
When terrible tempefts affail us,

And mountainous billows affright,
No grandeur or wealth can avail us,
But fkilful industry fteers right.

Then why should, &c.

The courtier's more fubject to dangers,
Who rules at the helm of the ftate,
Than we, that, to politics ftrangers,
Escape the fnares laid for the great.

The various bleffings of nature,
In various nations we try,
No mortals than us can be greater,
Who merrily live till we die.

Then why should, &c.

SONG 87.

E nymphs, 'tis true to Cokin's ftrain,
I've often liften'd in the grove,
And can you blame me that a fwain
Like Colin fhould engage my love?

Alas, could I may heart fecure,
Unlefs to worth and merit blind,
Ah, fay, cou'd you yourselves endure
To flight a fwain so true and kind?

When truth conveys the tender tale,
And honour breathes the fhepherds figh,

Love o'er difcretion will prevail,
To fhun its power in vain we try.

SONG 88.

TELL me, tell me, charming creature,

Will you never ease my pain? Muft I die for ev'ry feature? Muft I always love in vain? The defire of admiration,

Is the pleasure you pursue : Prithee, try a lafting paffion, Such a love as mine for you.

Tears and fighing could not move you,
For a lover ought to dare:
When I plainly told I lov'd you,

Then you faid I went too far.
Are fuch giddy ways befeeming?
Will my dear be fickle ftill?
Conqueft is the joy of women,

Let their flaves be what they will

Your neglect with torments fill me,
And my defp'rate thoughts increase ;

Pray confider, if you kill me,

You will have a lover lefs.

If your wand'ring heart is beating,
For new lovers, let it be?

But when you have done coquetting,
Name a day, and fix on me.
