CHRISTMAS HYMN.

How blessed was the day,

When Christ appeared on earth!
Angels and men together join
To hail the Saviour's birth.

How kindly He became
A little child like me;

A child of poor and lowly name
The Saviour deigne to be.

The stable was His room,

The manger was His bed;
The birth-place of the King of kings
Was where the oxen fed.

Hail, gracious, heavenly Prince!
To Thee let children fly;
And on Thy constant providence
Oh! may we all rely.

Jesus will take the young

Beneath His special care;

And He will keep their youthful days From every hurtful snare.

He knows their tender frame,
Nor will their youth contemn;

For He a little child became,
To love and pity them.

Nor does He now forget

His youthful days on earth;
Nor should we ever cease to praise
For the Redeemer's birth.

JOYFUL, JOYFUL.
HERE we suffer grief and pain,
Here we meet to part again,
In heaven we part no more!
Oh, that will be joyful,
Joyful, joyful, joyful!
Oh, that will be joyful,
When we meet to part no more!

All who love the Lord below,
When they die to heaven will go,
And sing with saints above.

Oh, that will be joyful, &c.

Little children will be there,

Who have sought the Lord by prayer, From every home and school.

Oh, that will be joyful, &c.

Teachers, too, shall meet above;
Pastors, parents, whom we love,
Shall meet to part no more.

Oh, that will be joyful, &c.

None hath seen, nor e'er hath heard, What good things He hath prepared For those that love the Lord.

Oh, that will be joyful, &c.

Oh, how happy we shall be,

When our Saviour we shall see

Exalted on his throne!

Oh, that will be joyful, &c.

There we all shall sing with joy,
And eternity employ

In praising Christ the Lord!

Oh, that will be joyful, &c

A HUMBLE MIND

SINCE I am a little child,
Humble I should be and mild;
Always ready to be taught
And to do the things I ought.

When I cannot have my way,
I must no ill-will display;
But must learn to bend my will,
And be kind and gentle still.

Pride and anger I must shun,
Nor be rude to any one;
Evil tempers must not rise
To offend God's holy eyes.

Lord, Thy help and grace I seek,

Make me humble, modest, meek;
Poor in spirit may I be,

And submit myself to Thee.

THE CHILD'S RESOLVE.

I HAVE an evil heart within,
A heart that's often prone to sin:
What can a feeble infant do,
His naughty tempers to subdue?

This will I do : when first I find
An evil thought within my mind,
I'll go to Jesus, and I'll say,
"Lord, take this sinful thought away."

Does not the name of Jesus mean
One that has power to save from sin?
O Lamb of God! take mine away,
And give me a new heart, I pray.
