It has been the fate of

many great and illustrious characters; to be : misrepresented ; and to have different opinions formed of them by persons of different parties and prejudices ; but there never was a person on earth whb. has; for so long a time been a subject of controversy as JÉSUS CÀRIST: The controversy has affumed various forms, and has been-stimulated by various paffrons and interests'; but it has never : been discontinued, or, if filent awhild, it has broken out again from its remstraint.
