The author is grateful for the favourable reception which the following work met with on its first publication; for the kind opinions of its useful tendency, contained in letters addressed to him by some of the venerable Bishops and reverend Clergy of the Church; and for the assurances communicated from various quarters, that it has been of some service to the cause of religion. It has undergone a revision, which has led to slight alterations and additions. In compliance with the solicitations of several friends, a second edition is now sent forth, accompanied by an earnest prayer that the Lord may render it, by his blessing, subservient to the good of his Church, and the glory of his name.
