book of reference for its defcription of New England in 1686. In that year Dunton paid a short visit to this country, and having written hence many letters to his friends in England, he made a free ufe of them in defcribing that portion of his life. This account of his vifit occupies p. 101-195 in the original edition. In 1814, the Massachusetts Hiftorical Society, in its 2nd S. vol. ii, p. 97-124, reprinted the portion of the "Life" which related to New-England.
