deavour to perform the duties of their office, they feel alsured, that the same spirit of punctuality will emulate the breast of every friend to science and literature. And,

As the continuance of the New York Magazine will not depend upon a prospect of future Tubscriptions, the Editors fervently hope, that those who have honoured it with their patronage from its commencement, and since, will still

prove its zealous supporters, and extend to it that protection, without which its existence may be rendered perhaps problematical.

During the present year, considerable additions have been made to the subscription list, and few have been found disposed to relinquish their right of subscription, except where particular circumstances rendered it prudent and adviseable :- A better proof of an increase of merit is not wanting; and the Editors are happy to observe, that, as far as they can learn, their endeavours to meet the wishes of their Patrons have been fortunate in an high degree.--In soliciting the further and continued patronage of an enlightened People, the Editors pledge themselves for the faithful performance of their duty; and in proportion to the encouragement they receive, they have not a doubt but that an increased pleasure will rəsult from their labours.
