O'Neil, the oldeft Harper in Ireland, was not excluded from the feftive board. In the midft of his country men he feemed to have renewed his youth, prefenting an interesting picture of a Bard of other times," furrounded by his Milefian brethren. After dinner he led into the room his 12 blind pupils, one of whom is a female, Mifs O'Reilly,-Their entrance exhibited a fcene peculiarly

impreffive; but when Mifs O'Reilly and two of the youths ftrung their harps, and played fome trios, duets, &c: they were followed by most enthufiaftic applaufe. Among other admired airs were the following: Patrick's Day-The Green Wood Tringha-Ulligan dulh O! or the Song of Sorrow--Bumper Squire Jones-Planxty Plunket-Planx ty Reilly, &c. &c. Their per-formances gave much fatisfaction,and it was very gratifying to behold this youthful groupe, the objects of the Society's care, thus furrounded by their patrons, delighting their ears with the mufic of ancient times.

It would be injuftice to the marits of Belfalt not to mention, that two of the most approved fongs were compofed and fung with great effect, by one of the gentlemen prefent. The fong of Ballyporeen,' in particular, drew forth thunders of ap plaufe.

The Prefident having left the chair, which he had filled with diftinguished propriety, his health was drank with loud applause.

Important Extracts from the Newspapers.

YESTERDAY evening at a late hour, fome large packages of brimftone were fent off from the Apothecaries' Hall, under a strong efcort to Glaffnevin, for thecotch colonifts lately planted there under the aufpicies of a moft divine authority. The hands the medicine is intended for, in the fhort intervals of "fcratching, are employed fmoothing the vicinity of epifcopal refidence, removing the cabbins or half graves that contained the old and ragged inhabitants who have been ferved with regular notice to depart to Hell or Connaught.

THE High Constable gave an elegant dinner to a large party, at his wine flores; we regret to say that feveral impertinent publicans interrupted the feaft by their importuni ties to have billets changed, but feveral of the vulgar claimants were difmiffed, not only for the improper intrufion, but for their obitinancy in difputing the quality of the vintage of which the very choiceft felection is always to be had on the shortest notice, at No, 50, Great StrandStreet.

A few days fince the Hon. W. Wellesley Pole, one of the most no. ble family of Talavara, infpected the feveral prifons in this city, among other acts of benevolence, he humanely ordered that thirty-four fick and naked prifoners to be removed from Newgate to Kilmainham, where their health and comforts will be confiderably improved, by the good air and fuperior kind of dry flagging in the cells of that prifon. Several whofe health would not permit them

to be removed without cloathing, were ordered to the Hofpital, where a new manner of feeling the pulle with a walking cane is most ingenioufly introduced. It is alfo underftood in the neighbourhood of Greentreet, that during the inclement feafon of winter, fuch females as have no covering, will be accommodated with the clofeft protection against the viciflitudes of the feafon by being kept within their cells. hefe are not the kind of blankets the

A very confiderable number of tradesmen, were advised by the M to fpend their Chriftmas holidays in the Watch-houfes, Newgate and Bridewell, being detected at late hours drinking part of their own money; the advice was not in any degree difputed, and a large party of the battalion attended to witnefs the festivities. Several old women were alfo removed to the fame chearful abodes, for felling bacon and cabbages on the fabbath.

The Major is elected an honorary member of the Farming Society for the skill and humanity he evinced in the education and feeding of the largeft hog ever prefented to the fociety His ingenuity in converting a cabbin into an excelleet ftye was greatly admired at the laft meeting.

To the Chriflian Reader.

THE first object of the Tranflator has been, to confole and edify fuch of the Faithful as may be led, by devotion, to affift at the folenn acts herein defcribed. But it is con feffed, that he has had alfo a further object in view; he wished to aid even those amongst our fellow chriftians, who, though estranged from Roman Catholic communion, might however defire to infpect our ceremonies, which now, that, thanks to God, all legel perfecution of profeffed followers of Chrift has been abolished amongst us, are laid open for the peaceable infpection of all. This undertaking, he bas reafon to believe, will be the more acceptable to them, as the religious fyftems, to which they have been habituated, exprefsly disavow the ufe of any ceremonies, except fuch as explain themfelves to the mere spectator.

CONSECRATION OF A BISHOP.

Rubric.

The Credence is to be in fome decent part adjoining, and furnished out with its long cloth, two candefticks, holy waterpot and asperforium, (cenfer and incenfebot, if the office be in chaunt,) chrifm, pontificalia of the time, viz. the fandals, amict, alb, cingu lum, pectoral cross, tole, tunic, dalmatic, gloves, chafuble, embroidered mitre, paftoral ftaff, maniple, and apron.

Alfo, for the Confecrating Bifhop, the covered jointed chair, and three feats for the affifting Bishops and the Elect.

In the chapel of the Elect, all the pontificalia are to be white, and moreover a white cope, the ring and an ivory comb. The affiftant Bishops mult be two at leaft, in rochets, furplices, amicts, ftoles, copes, and to wear plain white mitres. The Elect is to ap pear in the robes of a prefbyter, except that he is allowed to puc on the fandals at the Pfalm Quam dile&ta, during the office of the hours.

WE are taught and commanded by the immemorial ordinance of Holy Fathers, that he who is chofen for the rank of a Bishop, be firit moft diligently examined, with all Chriftian tendernefs, concerning the faith of the Holy Trinity, and be interrogated upon the different titles and morals which are befitting fuch government, and, are neceffary to be kept up, according to that authority of the apostle, “Be thou not hasty in confecrating a man ;" and for this purpofe alfo, that he, who is about to be ordained, may be prepared by the inftruction how he is bounden to demean himself, when established in this rule, within the Church of God. Laftly, to the end, that they who give the confecrating impofition of hands may alfo be irreprehenfible. And, therefore, by this fame authority and precept, we now interrogate thee, moft dearly beloved brother in the fincerity of chriftian love, whe ther wilt thou conform and fubject all thy fkill and fenfe, as far as thy nature is capable, to the meaning and conceptions of holy fcriptures?
