PREFACE.

THE object of this book is not controversial but only practical. It has been written in the sincere desire, that the meditations, which it contains, may be in accordance with the will and truth and grace of God as they are revealed in His Word. The author believes, that, if we study and receive faithfully the teaching of Holy Scripture with regard to the means of grace, given to the Church of Christ, it cannot fail to make them very precious to us during our present life, to deepen our humility and reverence, as well as our Christian trust and delight in our united worship, and to produce increasing thankfulness for the Lord's Day,
