Nov. 29. Ames Halloran, as he with others were returning from Clonmel market, was kil-, led by a villain yet unknown, who with a knife ftabbed him in feven different places, and another perfon, who went to his affiftance, was alfo much wounded; after this horrid act, the wretch robbed them and made off. 30. The Succefs, capt. Lamb com. arrived in Dublin, harbour, under convoy of the Albany floop of war. A Dutch East India man homeward bound, mounting 30 guns, put into Cove, near Cork. DECEM. 2. His Majesty's royal Charter incorporating the Governors, and Guardians of the Hofpital for the Relief of poor Lying Inn Women in Dublin, paffed the Great Seal of this Kingdom, to confift of one Prefident, fix Vice Presidents,

one Treafurer, one Secretary, and one Mafter of the Hofpital. The pretent Officers are, Ralph Sampfon, Efq; Treafurer, Edward Sterling, Efq; Secretary, Bartholomew Moffe, M. D. Mafter for life. 7. Arrived in Dublin harbour the Boyne letter of marque, Captain Michael Jordan, from Jamaica, with a valuable cargoe; he was taken by a French p,ivateer, but recovered by the courage, and good conduct of the commander, who finding it was not pol fible to oppofe, the fuperior force of the enemy, gave the command to his Lieut, directing him to strike after fome refillance, while he with part of the crew concealed them. felves below; the next morning at the appearance of day, they rofe upon the French (tho' fuperior in

(now Lord) Blakeney with his Freedom of the City of Dublin, has the following Infcription engraven on the bottom: "With "due Regard to exalted Virtue, "fhewn by many important Servi

ces to his King and Country, "and further manifefted in extreme "old Age, by a Defence of St. Philip's, aftonishing to all Europe, "The Lord Mayor, Sheriffs, Com"mons, and Citizens of Dublin, prefent the Freedom of that City "to General Blakeney." The Rt. Hon. Percival Hunt, Lord Mayor, Arthur Lamprey, Charles Ruffel, Efqrs. Sheriffs. The Lid is ornamented by a Reprefentation of St. Philip's with the British Flag difplay'd, while the Commander is proceeding from the Fort, properly armed, attended with a few (being an emblem of his infufficient Force) to receive terms of Capitulation from Marthal Richlieu, who appears with a complete incampment, and every requifite of War, emblematically fhewing his fuperior Strength. The lords juftices were pleased by proclamation to prohibit the exportation of all kinds of grain, flour, ftarch, bifcuit and bread, except fuch quantities as fhould be requifite for veffels on their voyages. 24. Advice has been received that the Charming Molly of and from Belfast for Jamaica, John Martin, Commander, was taken by a privateer 40 leagues to the leeward of Barbadoes, and carried to Martinico: her owners had the good fortune to infure 2000l. of her value. 27. The Mercury privateer of Liverpool, carrying 16 guns and 120 men, was put into Caftletown near Cork, much difabled, with 8 feet water in her hold; the had been engaged for 4 hours the Wednesday before, with a French letter of marque of 22 nine poun ders, and in the engagement had 4 of her men killed and 13 woun ded; but a fhot taking her between wind and water, obliged her to ftrike; the French man gave her three chears, and faid they were bound for the coaft of Guinea; the commander, Captain Gyles, is amongst the woun ded. 30. The city of Cork voted that lord Blakeney should be prefented with his Freedom in a Gold Box.

Justices of this Kingdom. His Lord hip's great Judgment, Integrity, Affiduity, and Humanity, were eminent ly confpicuous through every ftation of his Life, and have imprinted fo grateful a Remembrance of his extraordinary Abilities on the Hearts of the People, as are the trueft and moft lafting Teftimonies of his worth. His Lordship was appointed March 28, 1726, third Serjeant at Law to his late Majefty, and May 4, 1727, his Solicitor-General, which was renewed to him October 28, by his prefent Majefty, who was pleafed, on the 22d of that Month 1730, to make bim his Attorney General; and Sept 7, 1739, to promote him to the Poft of Lord Chancellor of Ireland; fince which he was conflantly one of the Lords Juftices of the Kingdom, in the abfence of the Lord Lieutenant. His Lordship was advanced to the Dignity of a Baron of Ireland by Letter Patent dated 29 November 1743, by the Title of Lord Baron Newport of Newport, and 6 December 1755. he was raised to the Dignity of a Vifcount, by the Title of Lord Vifcount Jocelyn. His Lordship is fucceeded by his only Son,
