THE events of the 14th of August have given reason to dread the influenza of a Metropolis, where mob law has been upheld by two inquests:-and the vast majority of the yet uncontami nated Population resident in the COUNTRY can no longer tamely look on, and mark with dangerous apathy, the threatening steps of civil commotion rapidly treading on the heels of the Constitution. The History of the World is little more than the detail of the factions and exuberancies of the various seats of empire. Political Associations are but the airy castles of timidity; and the mutually abusive jargon of the Metropolitan Journals is but the humbug of trade, well understood by its rival Proprietors, and tending only to confuse and blister the Public Mind." From the SECOND CITY IN THE EMPIRE, then, is about to emanate the daring but fearless attempt, of counterpoising Country opinions against those of a licentious Capital; and of commteracting the errors of the press by the exercise of cotemporary powers. In the Metropolis itself, such an attempt will be hailed with pleasure by thousands; and in the country, it will be supported by a spirit of emulation. THE COUNTRY CONSTITUTIONAL GUARDIAN will be printed and published by JOHN MATHEW GUTCH (Proprietor and Editor of Felix Farley's Bristol Journal) at BRISTOL, on the first day of every Month, commencing in November next; but although printed there, published there, and edited there, it has been found from custom and the course of trade, that it can be circulated with greater punctuality and at less expence from the Metropolis; Booksellers therefore, and News Venders will be pleased to direct their orders to Messrs. RIVINGTONS', St. Paul's Church-yard, and Waterloo-place, London; by whom it will be supplied with as much regularity as other Periodical Works, price Two Shillings. But ALL Communications (post paid) must be addressed solely to Mr. GUTCH, at Bristol; or under cover to him at Messrs. Rivingtons'. And it is confidently expected, that as "THE COUNTRY CONSTITUTIONAL GUARDIAN" is intended to express the sound sense and loyal feelings of the "COUNTRY versus LONDON," there will be no want of emulative Communications, on every point in which the Constitution is concerned, whether of a grave, argumentative, satirical, or playful nature, (From Felix Farley's Bristol Journal, 20th October.)
