news that a Preliminary Convention was figned there the 20th Inftant between the Imperial Ambaffador and the Ambassadors of the Republick, the principal Articles of which are, that their High Mightineffes fhall pay the fum of nine million five hundred thoufand florins, as a Compensation for Maestricht, &c. and five hundred thousand for the damage occafioned by the Inondations Dalem is to be ce ed to the Emperor, with its Dependencies (except Ooft and Cadier) for an adequate Exchange in the district of Outreh Meufe. The Limits of Flanders to remain as in 1664. The Sovereignty of the Emperor upon the Scheld is acknowledged from Antwerp to the extent of the Territory of Saftingen, according to the Line of 1664. The Forts of Kruifchans and Frederick Henry to be evacuated and demolished, and the Soil ceded to His Imperial Majefty. Lillo and Liefkenfhoek are also to be evacuated and delivered up to the Emperor in their prefent State, who renounces his claims to the Villages of Bladel and Reuffel; and all pecuniary Pretensions on either fide are reciprocally an nulled.

Lord Chamberlain's Office, October 4. The Order for Mourning in laft Saturday's Gazette fhould have been as under: Lord Ghamberlain's Office, September 30, 1785. Orders for the Court's going into Mourning, on Sunday next 2d of October, for his late Royal Highness the Infant Don Lewis, Brother to His Catholick Majefty, viz.

The Ladies to wear Black Silk or Velvet, Coloured Ribbons, Fans and Tippets; or Plain White, or White and Gold, or White and Silver Stuff with black ribbons. The men to wear black coats, and black or plain white Waistcoats, full-trimmed, coloured

October 2. Died, at Fenny Stratford, Bucks, Martha Olborn, a single woman, aged 56. For the laft 20 years, the was closely confined to her bed, owing to the misfortune of flipping down at the age of 26 and hurting her ancle and leg, for which the could have no remedy but amputation, which he would not agree to. In this miferable ftate, fhe fuf. fered the most excruciating pain during the above period; but nevertheless, being a very ingenious and complete, fempitress, fupported herfelf during confinement by her own industry.

Mr. John Fofter, an eminent coschmaker of Long-acre. His character by those who knew him may be remembered, but cannot be defcribed. In publick fpirit he was what every man confeffes right, but what few have practifed. In honour unimpeachable, in hu

manity an example, in friendship incorruptible, in manly firmnefs almost unequalled; not only without a wish to injure others, he would fuffer injury himself to promote a ge neral good. Such his philanthropy, even his errors feemed to be born of virtue, and his very imperfections carried with them the character of principle. In short, fuch was his character univerfally allowed, that his death muft be confidered as a particular lofs to his friends, and a general one to fociety.

7. A few days fince, at his parfonage-house, at Applefhaw, in the county of Somerfet, the Rev. William Ford, Clerk, batchelor in divinity, rector of that parith above 30 years.

A few days fince, at Bath, Mrs. Fitz-Thomas, wife of the Rev. Mr. Fitz Thomas, and daughter of Sir John Prideaux, Bart. by Ann, daughter of the first Lord, and aunt to the prefent Earl Lisburn.

Charles Collingon, M. D. thirty two years Profeffor of Anatomy in that University.

The late Dr. Miles Cowper, of Edinburgh, was buried in the cemetry of the old church of Reftalrig, about a mile Eaft from Edinburgh, where thofe of the epifcopal perfuafion are commonly interred. His death was very fudden. Not finding a gentleman at home with whom he went to dine, he repaired to a tavern, and ordered dinner, and fell down dead while it was getting ready.

The following epitaph was found in his re pofitories:

HERE lies a priest of English blood, Who, living, lik'd what'er was good; Good company, good wine, good name, Yet never hunted after fame; But as the first he fill preferr'd, So here he chofe to be interr'd, And unobferv'd, from crowds withdrew To reft among a chofen few, In humble hope that divine love Will raise him to the bleft above, It may perhaps deferve mention, that Dr. Cowper's library fold for 51. and the liquors in his cellar for 150l.

At his feat at Grove Park, in the county of Warwick, the Rt.. Hon. John Lord Dormer, Baron of Wenge, in the county of Bucks, He retained his faculties to the last moment although at the advanced age of 93. His Lordship is fucceeded in his honours and eftare by his eldest son, the Right Hon. Charles Lord Dormer, who married Lady Mary, the fifter of the Right Hon. George Earl of Shrewsbury, by whom he has one fou, the Hon. Mr. Charles Dormer.
