shall submit a statement of the Finances of the College in like manner for the approval of the Council. The Academical Board shall be subject in all respects to the Council, which may from time to time make, cancel, and vary Regulations as to the duties, functions, and procedure thereof. Except so far as expressly authorised in writing by the Corporation, the Academical Board shall not be entitled to make any contract or to incur any liability on behalf of the Corporation.

XI. ACADEMICAL DEPARTMENTS.-There shall be a Faculty of Music, with which shall be associated a Department of Literature and Science. The work of the College shall be conducted by means of (1) Classes and Lectures, and (2) Public Examinations. Candidates for higher Diplomas in the Faculty of Music shall give evidence of general culture upon Examination; but such General Examinations shall in all cases be preliminary to or a sectional part of the Musical Examinations, and shall not by themselves be held to qualify for any position or grade within the College beyond that of a Matriculated Student. The respective grades of Fellow, Licentiate in Music, and Associate in Music of Trinity College, London, shall be awarded after due examination, and also such higher, intermediate, or elementary certificates as the Board may think fit. The Board may also confer (not oftener than once in each Academical Year) the Honorary Fellowship or Licentiateship of the College upon Persons who have obtained public distinction in Music, or in Literature, Science, or Art, or any other branch of Scholarship; provided always that the names of such Persons shall be submitted to the approval of the Council. The Board shall be empowered to appoint annually a Dean and Vice-Dean in each of the Departments, and shall also have discretion to appoint Committees of Professors and Lecturers to advise or confer with the Board.

XII. PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS.-The Examinations of the College shall be public, and conducted by the Examiners under regulations to be from time to time made

by the Academical Board. The Examiners shall be appointed by the Academical Board; and at least one Examiner shall have graduated at a British University.

XIII. DISCIPLINE.-The proceedings of the Academical Departments shall be in strict accordance with Academical precedent and usage, and shall be regulated by the Bye-laws; and the respective grades of Licentiate, Associate, and Matriculated Student shall be suitably distinguished by such seemly Academical habit as the Board may appoint. Further, no alteration of the Regulations affecting the Public Examinations of the College shall take effect until three months after such alterations have been adopted and announced in one or more of the public papers.

XIV. FIRST ACADEMICAL BOARD.-The following shall be the first Members of the Academical Board :— The Reverend H. G. Bonavia Hunt, Mus. B., Warden; Humphrey J. Stark, Esquire, Mus. B., Registrar; Bradbury Turner, Esquire, Mus. B., Bursar; John Stedman, Esquire, Honorary Secretary; George William Bloxam, Esquire, M.A.; Croft Worgan Dew, Esquire, M.A.; Albert Edwin Drinkwater, Esquire, M.A.; the Reverend Robert Gwynne, B.A.; William James Jennings, Esquire, B.A.; Joseph Gordon Saunders, Esquire, Mus.D. Any casual vacancy in the Academical Board may be filled up by the Council.

OF THE SENATE OF THE COLLEGE.

XV. The Senate shall consist of (1) six Professors and Lecturers (including the Deans and Vice-Deans), to be elected by the Professors and Lecturers, together with the following (2) the President, Vice-Presidents, and Warden of the College; (3) all Members of Council; (4) all Fellows of not more than five years' standing; (5) three Licentiates of the College; (6) all Life Members; (7) three Local Secretaries; and (8) three Members of the College, not being included in any class before mentioned. The Senate shall assemble at least once in each Academical Year for conference on subjects generally important to the College. All Resolutions passed or

representations made by the Senate shall be forwarded to the Council for final deliberation and decision. The three Licentiates shall be elected annually by vote of the Licentiates, and shall be eligible for re-election. The three Local Secretaries shall be elected annually by vote of the Local Secretaries, and shall be eligible for re-election. The three Members of the College shall be elected annually by vote of the Honorary Members, and shall be eligible for re-election. Only those Licentiates, Local Secretaries, and Members who have kept their names upon the Books of the College by annual or life subscription as Members of the College shall be eligible for election as Members of the Senate, or to vote in such elections. The elections to the Senate shall take place in the month of February in each year.

OF THE COLLEGE CHAPEL.

XVI. The Services of the College Chapel shall be conducted according to the form, manner, and discipline of the Church of England. The Lord Bishop of London shall be duly acknowledged as the Ordinary of the place; and the Rev. H. G. Bonavia Hunt, Clerk, Mus. B., is hereby declared to be the first Chaplain by the terms on which the Bishop's License has been granted.

HONORARY FELLOWSHIPS.

By a Minute of the Academical Board, dated June 22, 1878, and subsequently confirmed by the Council, it has been decided to institute a few Honorary Fellowships (not more than twelve) in connection with the College, to be conferred upon the most distinguished among those who have devoted themselves to the Science or Practice of Music in this country; and a subsequent Council minute provided for a like number of Honorary Fellowships to be conferred on persons distinguished in Literature, Science, or Art. The holders of these Fellowships are not members of the Governing Body, and consequently are not held responsible for the proceedings of the Council or the Academical Board.
