Mr. Stone moved that the president appoint a committee of five members on credentials. The motion prevailed and the president named the following:

On motion of Mr. Stone, Mr. Samuel Slaymaker of Converse county was elected temporary sergeant-at-arms of the Senate.

On motion of Mr. Rusk, the Senate then adjourned until 10 o'clock a. m. tomorrow.

The Senate was called to order at ten o'clock a. m. by Hon. John McGill, president ad interim.

The journal of yesterday was read and approved.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES.

The committee on credentials presented the following reFort:

Sir: Your committee on credentials respectfully report that they find the following named persons were duly elected

members of the Senate of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of the State of Wyoming for the term of four years beginning on the first Monday in January, A. D. 1901, namely:

Patrick Sullivan of Natrona county.

Atwood C. Thomas of Big Horn county.
Charles A. Guernsey of Laramie county.
J. W. Hawk of Sweetwater county.
Wm. Madden of Fremont county.
Palmer J. Black of Laramie county.

Upon motion of Mr. McBride the report of the committee on credentials was approved and the committee discharged.

Mr. McBride moved that a committee of three be appointed by the president of the Senate to wait upon the chief justice of the supreme court of the State of Wyoming and request his attendance in the Senate chamber to administer the oath of office to the senators-elect of the Sixth Legislature. The motion prevailed and the president appointed as such committee Senators McBride of Johnson county, Brittain of Sheridan county, and Verbryck of Weston county, who retired and soon returned with the Honorable Chief Justice, Judge C. N. Potter, who administered the oath of office to the following senators-elect:

Charles A. Guernsey of Laramie county.
J. W. Hawk of Sweetwater county.
Wm. Madden of Fremont county.
Palmer J. Black of Laramie county.

Upon motion of Mr. Guernsey, the Senate proceeded to the -election of permanent officers and the president declared nominations in order for president of the Senate of the Sixth LegisAature of the State of Wyoming. Mr. Guernsey placed in nomination Hon. Edward W. Stone of Laramie county. There be ing no further nominations, the president declared the nominations closed and directed the chief clerk to call the roll. The vote resulted as follows:

Voting for Mr. Stone: Balch, Black, Brittain, Davis, Griffin, Guernsey, Hawk, Iredale, Madden, McBride, Nichols, Osmond, Rusk, Sullivan, Thomas, Verbryck, and Mr. President -17.

Absent Mr. Williams. Not voting, Mr. Stone.

Hon. Edward W. Stone having received all the votes cast, the president declared him elected President of the Senate of the Sixth Legislature of the State of Wyoming.

On motion of Mr. Verbryck a committee of three was appointed to wait on the Hon. Chief Justice and request his presence in the Senate to administer the oath of office to the president-elect. The president appointed as such committee Mr. Verbryck, Mr. Guernsey and Mr. Griffin. The committee re

tired and soon returned with Chief Justice Potter, who administered the oath to President Edward W. Stone.

The chair appointed Mr. Balch and Mr. Nichols to escort President Stone to the chair. President Stone was introduced and addressed the Senate briefly.

Mr. Hawk nominated Hon. Joseph Iredale of Sweetwater county for vice president of the Senate. There being no further nominations, the chief clerk was directed to call the roll. The vote resulted as follows:

Voting for Mr. Iredale: Balch, Black, Brittain, Davis, Griffin, Guernsey, Hawk, Madden, McBride, McGill, Nichols, Osmond, Rusk, Sullivan, Thomas, Verbryck and Mr. President-17. Absent, Mr. Williams. Not voting, Mr. Iredale. Mr. Iredale was thereupon declared elected.

Mr. Davis nominated Geo. W. Perry of Carbon county for chief clerk of the Senate, and there being no further nominations Mr. Perry was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. McGill nominated Hugh Hynds of Albany county for assistant chief clerk of the Senate and there being no further nominations Mr. Hynds was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Thomas nominated J. Frank Warner of Big Horn county for enrolling and engrossing clerk and there being no further nominations Mr. Warner was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Nichols nominated Miss Margaret Bailey of Laramie County for assistant enrolling and engrossing clerk and there

being no further nominations, Miss Bailey was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Iredale nominated Samuel Slaymaker of Converse county for sergeant-at-arms, and there being no further nominations Mr. Slaymaker was declared elected by unanimous

yote.

Mr. Osmond nominated Edward Blacker of Uinta county for dookeeper and there being no further nominations Mr. Blacker was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Sullivan nominated Edward Fry of Natrona county for messenger and there being no further nominations Mr. Fry was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Guernsey nominated Rev. Benjamin Young of Laramie county for chaplain and there being no further nominations Rev. Young was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Balch nominated Harry Langheldt for page and there being no further nominations he was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Black nominated W. O. Smith of Laramie county for watchman and he was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Guernsey nominated T. W. Ashford for janitor and he was declared elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Black nominated Mr. Joseph Ohnhaus for journal clerk and there being no further nominations he was elected by unanimous vote.

Mr. Davis moved that a committee of three be appointed to wait upon the chief justice and request his presence in the Senate to administer the oath of office to the officers-elect of the Senate. The chair appointed as such committee, Messrs. Davis, Iredale and Thomas. The committee retired and soon returned with the Hon. Chief Justice Potter, who administered the oath of office to the following officers:

Joseph Iredale-Vice president.

Geo. W. Perry-Chief clerk.

Jos. A. Ohnhaus-Journal clerk.

J. Frank Warner-Enrolling and engrossing clerk.

tee of three to confer with a like committee from the House to wait upon the governor and inform him that the Senate was ready to hear any communication that he might have to make. The motion prevailed and the president appointed as such committee Messrs. Balch, Sullivan and Brittain. Mr. Verbryck moved that the chief clerk be instructed to notify the House that the Senate was organized and ready for the transaction of business.

On motion of Mr. Rusk, the rules of the Senate of the Fifth State Legislature were adopted as the temporary rules of the Senate.

Mr. Davis moved that a committee of three be appointed to act with a like committee from the House to report temporary joint rules for the guidance of the joint session of the House and Senate. The motion prevailed and the chair appointed as such committee Messrs. McGill, Verbryck and Nichols.
