PUBLISHED UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE COMMITTEE OF GENERAL LITERATURE AND EDUCATION, CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE. LONDON: PRINTED FOR THE SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE; SOLD AT THE DEPOSITORY, GREAT QUEEN STREET, LINCOLN'S INN FIELDS, AND 4, ROYAL EXCHANGE. 1847. SINCE the publication of " Scripture Topography," a very elaborate work has appeared, written by the Rev. George Williams, Chaplain to the late Bishop of Jerusalem, on the subject of the antiquities of Jerusalem. Mr. Williams labours to disprove many of the conclusions of Dr. Robinson, of whose incredulity, as regards ecclesiastical tradition, &c., he makes great complaints. But, although it may be an error to be incredulous, it is quite as unsafe to err on the side of credulity-an error from which Mr. Williams's Work appears to be by no means free. |
