Anthony Welch maps the chronology of the epic, Stella Revard highlights the anger of Adam as an element of Homeric influence, Kent R. Lehnhof views the temptation of Eve as a demonic counterpart to Gabriel's Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, and Raymond B. Waddington offers the first comprehensive explanation of Milton's account of Abel's death. In the remainder of the essays, Lauren Shohet innovatively interprets Samson Agonistes as historiography, James Egan examines the interplay of genres in Tetrachordon and Colasterion, John D. Staines looks at Milton's rhetoric of revolution, and Michael Lieb examines the controversy surrounding the authorship of De Doctrina Christiana.
