3 Give us, in thy beloved house,
Again to pay our grateful vows;
Or, if that joy no more be known,
Give us to meet around thy throne.

[blocks in formation]

1 LORD of nature, Source of light, In pity view thy world below; Guide our erring footsteps right,

Through these scenes of guilt and woe. 2 Grant thy spirit! By thy kindness Let our errors be forgiven;

Heal our sins; dispel our blindness;
Then conduct us safe to heaven.

L. M.
Sabbath Evening.

1 AGAIN we've seen the Sabbath day,"
And heard of Jesus and of heaven;
We thank thee, Father, and we pray
That this day's sins may be forgiven.
2 May all we've heard and understood
Be well remembered through the week,
And help to make us wise and good,
More humble, diligent, and meek.

7s.
Al Parting.

1 As the sun's enlivening eye

Shines on every place the same; So the Lord is always nigh

To the souls that love his name.

2 For a season called to part,

Let us then ourselves commend

To the gracious eye and heart
Of our ever-present Friend.
3 Father, hear our humble prayer!
Tender Shepherd of thy sheep,
Let thy mercy and thy care
All our souls in safety keep.

4 In thy strength may we be strong;
Sweeten every cross and pain;
Give us, if we live, erelong,
Here to meet in peace again.

8 & 7s M. Dismission Hymn.

1 LORD, dismiss us with thy blessing,
Hope and comfort from above;
Let us each, thy peace possessing,
Triumph in redeeming love.

2 Thanks we give and adoration
For thy gospel's joyful sound;
May the fruits of thy salvation
In our hearts and lives abound.

[blocks in formation]

1 GLORY to thee, my God, this night,
For all the blessings of the light:
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Under thy own almighty wings.

2 Forgive me, Lord, through thy dear Son,
The ill that I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

3 Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed;
To die, that this vile body may
Rise glorious at the awful day.

4 O, may my soul on thee repose,
And may sweet sleep mine eyelids close;
Sleep that may me more vigorous make,
To serve my God when I awake.

[blocks in formation]

1 THY favor, gracious Lord, impart,
With sacred joy to cheer my heart:
Howe'er the corn and wine increase,
Earth ne'er can yield such heavenly peace.
2 With thy protection kindly blest,
I'll lay me down in peace to rest;
Safe in thy care-from danger free,
To wake on earth- or wake with thee.

7s M. Evening Devotion.

1 SOFTLY now the light of day
Fades upon my sight away;
Free from care, from labor free,
Lord, I would commune with thee!

2 Thou, whose all-pervading eye
Nought escapes, without, within,
Pardon each infirmity,

Open fault and secret sin.

3 When for me the light of day Shall on earth be passed away,

Then, from sin and sorrow free,
Take me, Lord, to dwell with thee!

L. M.
Evening Devotion.

1 WHEN home I seek, and sweet repose,
And humbly kneel, at evening's close,
From worldly care and toil set free,
What joy, O Lord, to turn, to thee!
2 And as the faithful golden flower
Turns to the sun, each passing hour,
And never, till the close of day,
Loses his animating ray, —

3 So turns my soul to love divine:
Here may the beams of mercy shine;
Here may that holy light be shed,
Which gilds a Christian's dying bed.

[blocks in formation]

1 ANOTHER fleeting day is gone;

Slow o'er the west the shadows rise; Swiftly the passing hours have flown, And night's dark curtains veil the skies.

2 Another fleeting day is gone;

But soon a fairer day shall rise,
A day whose never-setting sun
Shall pour its light o'er cloudless skies.

3 Another fleeting day is gone;

In solemn silence rest, my soul!
Bow down thy heart before His throne,
Who bids the morn and evering roll.

[blocks in formation]

1 THE sun hath gone to rest;

The bee forsakes the flower;-
The young bird slumbers on its nest,
Within the leafy bower.

2 Where have I been this day?
Into what folly run?
Forgive me, Father, when I pray
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son.

3 When all my days are o'er,
And in the grave I rest,
Wilt thou permit my soul to fly
To a Redeemer's breast?

L. M.
Evening Hymn.

1 THUS far the Lord hath led me on,
Thus far his power prolongs my days;
And every evening shall make known
Some fresh memorial of his grace.

2 Much of my time has run to waste,
And I, perhaps, am near my home;
But he forgives my follies past,

He gives me strength for days to come.

3 I lay my body down to sleep;

Peace is the pillow for my head; While well-appointed angels keep Their watchful stations round my bed.

4 Faith in his name forbids my fear: O, may thy presence ne'er depart!
