Senate bill No. 142 (file No. 134), entitled

A bill to amend sections 8 and 14 and to restore and amend section 13 of chapter 12 of the compiled laws of 1871, as amended and repealed by act numbered 42 of the session laws of 1875, and to amend section 103 of chapter 12 of the compiled laws of 1871, as amended by act numbered 199 of the session laws of 1879, relative to township officers,

Was read a third time, and pending the taking of the vote thereon,

By unanimous consent, Mr. Upson moved to amend the bill by striking from section 13 all the words in lines 1 and 2, enclosed in brackets;

Which motion prevailed and the bill was so amended.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Edsell moved to further amend the bill by adding to section 13 the following proviso:

Provided further, That the township superintendent of schools and school inspectors now in office shall continue to act as school inspectors and said superintendent of schools shall continue to act as chairman of the board of school inspectors until the school inspectors provided for by this act shall have been elected and duly qualified and shall enter upon the duties of their respective offices;

Also, by inserting in line 5, same section, after the word "inspector," the words "in each township;"

Which motion prevailed, and the bill was so amended.

The bill as amended was then passed, a majority of all the Senators elect voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows:

A bill to apportion anew the representatives among the several counties and districts of this State,

On motion of Mr. Ambler,

Senate bill No. 172 (file No. 164), entitled

A bill to provide for the re-assessment of taxes assessed on part-paid lands in

certain cases,

Was re-referred to the committee of the whole and placed on the general order.

The Senate went into committee of the whole on the general order,
Mr. Mars in the chair.

After some time spent therein, the committee rose, and through their chairman made the following report:

The committee of the whole have had under consideration the following: 1. Senate bill No. 189 (file No. 139), entitled

A bill to provide that the expense of constructing the main sewer on Fifth street, from the Saginaw river east to Washington street, and the main sewer on Sixth street, from the Saginaw river east to the alley, between Washington and Adams streets, in Bay City, Bay county, Michigan, may be assessed upon the property specially benefited thereby;

2. Senate bill No. 207 (file No. 174), entitled

A bill to create the county of Chandler;

3. Senate bill No. 97 (file No. 189), entitled

A bill to amend an act entitled "An act to appoint a crier of the supreme court," approved February 26, 1861, being compiler's section 4933 of the compiled laws of 1871, as amended by act No. 57 of the session laws of 1879, approved May 1, 1879, and to repeal compiler's section 4910 of said compiled laws, all relative to a crier of the supreme court, so as to define the duties and compensation thereof;

Have made no amendments thereto, and have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, and recommend their passage.

The committee of the whole have also had under consideration the following: 4. House bill No. 475 (file No. 250), entitled

A bill to amend section one of an act entitled "An act to authorize the board of control of State swamp lands to make an appropriation of State swamp lands to aid in the construction of a ditch in Bay county," approved May 27, 1879;

5. House Bill No. 353 (file No. 230), entitled

A bill to amend sections 30 and 31 of an act entitled "An act further to preserve the purity of elections, and guard against the abuses of the elective franchise by a registration of electors," approved February 14, 1859, as amended by act number 32 of the session laws of 1864, approved February 5, 1864;

Have made sundry amendments thereto, and have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, asking concurrence therein, and recommend their passage.

The committee of the whole have also had under consideration the following:

6. Senate bill No. 322 (file No. 140), entitled

A bill to authorize Bay county to build a free bridge across the Saginaw river at some convenient point between the second wards of the cities of Bay City and West Bay City;

7. Senate bill No. 321, entitled

A bill to authorize the cities of Bay City and West Bay City, conjointly or either of them, to build a free bridge across the Saginaw river at some convenient point between the second wards of said cities, or to allow said cities or either of them to purchase a bridge already built;

Have directed their chairman to report the same back to the Senate, with the recommendation that they be re-referred to the committee on cities and villages.

Report accepted and committee discharged.
