A bill to amend section 1 of act No. 96 of the session laws of 1873, approved April 15, 1873, entitled "An act to amend section 127 of chapter 178 of the compiled laws of 1871, being 'An act relative to courts held by justices of the peace,'" being section 5375 of the compiled laws;

Which have passed the House by a majority vote of all the members elect, and in which the concurrence of the Senate is respectfully asked.

SIR, I am instructed by the House to re-return to the Senate the following bill:

Senate bill No. 302, entitled

A bill to amend sections 4, 15, 17, 19, 22, 23, 40, 46, and 56 of act No. 271 of the local acts of 1877, entitled "An act to incorporate the city of Dowagiac," approved March 24, 1877,

And to inform the Senate that the House has amended the same by striking out of Section 46, line 9, the word "act," and inserting in lieu thereof the word "section ;"

In the passage of which, as thus amended, the House has concurred by a majority vote of all the members elect, and has ordered the same to take immediate effect by a vote of two-thirds of all the members elect.

A bill to amend sections 8 and 14 and to restore and amend section 13 of

chapter 12 of the compiled laws of 1871, as amended and repealed by act numbered 42, of the session laws of 1875, and to amend section 103 of chapter 12 of the compiled laws of 1871, as amended by act numbered 199 of the session laws of 1879, relative to township officers;

Which motion prevailed.

On motion of Mr. Edsell,

The bill was then placed on the order of third reading of bills.

THIRD READING OF BILLS.

Senate bill, file No. 135, entitled

A bill to revise and consolidate the laws relating to public instruction and primary schools, and to repeal all statutes and acts contravening the provisions of this act,

Was read a third time, and, pending the taking of the vote thereon,
By unanimous consent, Mr. Edsell moved to amend the bill as follows:

1. By striking from title III., section 25, sub-section Fourth, after the word "present" in line 17, the words "at each annual meeting of the district," and inserting in lieu thereof the words "to the district board at the close of the school year;"

2. By inserting in title XII., section 11, after the word "day" in line 12, the words "and when visiting schools in his township as provided in this act, two dollars per day;"

3. By striking out on page 44, section 12, lines 1 and 2, the words "Superintendent of Public Instruction," and insert "judge of probate of the county; also, in same sections, line 6, strike out "the remaining members of the board," and insert "judge of probate of such county;

Which motion prevailed, and the bill was so amended.

The bill, as amended, was then passed, a majority of all the Senators elect voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows:
