At the hour of 12 o'clock, noon, on Tuesday the 8th day of January, 1895, being the hour and day designated by the Constitution of the State of Wyoming for the assembling of the Legislature, the members and members elect of the Senate of the Third Legislature of the State of Wyoming assembled in the Senate Chamber of the Capitol in Cheyenne, the seat of government, and were called to order by Hon. George W. Hoyt, President of the Senate of the Second State Legislature. The roll of senators holding over was called by J. C. Argesheimer, Chief Clerk of the Senate of the Second Legislature, and the following responded to their names: George W. Hoyt of Laramie County. John Ludvigsen of Sweetwater County. Samuel Merrill of Laramie County. Present-4. Joel J. Hurt of Natrona County, being absent, failed to answer. 'Absent-1. The roll of the Senators-elect was then called when the following answered to their names: George E. Abbott, of Laramie County. Charles Deloney, of Uinta County. Whole number of senators and senators elect present-17. the Mr. Hanson moved that the chair appoint a Committee of five on Credentials, which motion prevailed and the chair appointed as such committee Messrs. Hanson, of Crook; Ludvigsen, of Sweetwater; Woodruff, of Fremont; Verbryck, of Weston, and McGill of Albany. At 12:30 o'clock p. m., noon, on motion of Mr. Hamlin, the Senate adjourned until 12 o'clock, noon, tomorrow. J. C. ARGESHEIMER, SECOND DAY. Chief Clerk. Senate Chamber, Cheyenne, Wyo., January 9, 1895. The Senate met at 12 o'clock, noon, pursuant to adjournment. Hon. George W. Hoyt, President of the Senate, presiding. Present-Messrs. Abbott, Appelget, Craig, Cross, Deloney, Foote, Hamlin, Hanson, Ludvigsen, McGill, Merrill, Meyer, Miller, Trabing, Verbryck, Woodruff, Mr. President. Absent-Mr. Hurt.. The Committee on Credentials submitted the following report: Senate Chamber, Cheyenne, Wyo., January 9, 1895. Hon. President of the Senate: Sir-Your Committee on Credentials respectfully report the following named persons as duly elected members of the Senate of the Legislature of the State of Wyoming, for the term of four years from the 8th day of January, 1895, to-wit: John McGill of the County of Albany. Louis R. Meyer of the County of Carbon, Alpheus P. Hanson of the County of Crook, Robert Foote of the County of Johnson, Geo. E. Abbott of the County of Laramie, A. M. Appelget of the County of Sheridan, C. C. Hamlin of the County of Sweetwater, Charles Deloney of the County of Uinta, George G. Verbryck of the County of Weston. Your Committee further find that the following named persons have been elected to this body for the term of two years from the 8th day of January, 1895, to wit: Augustus Trabing of the County of Albany. On motion of Mr. McGill the report of the Committee on Credentials was adopted and the committee discharged. Mr. Hanson moved that the President appoint a committee of three to wait upon the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Wyoming, and inform him that his presence is desired in the Senate Chamber to administer the oath of office to the senators elect. Which motion prevailed and the President appointed as such committee Messrs. Hanson of Crook, Trabing of Albany and Foote of Johnson. The committee retired and soon returned with the Honorable H. V. S. Groesbeck, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Wyoming, who administered the oath of office as set forth in the Constitution of the State of Wyoming to the following named senators-elect as by the Constitution prescribed, and each of the said senators-elect subscribed the same: Messrs. Abbott, Appelget, Craig, Cross, Deloney, Foote, Hamlin, Hanson, McGill, Meyer, Trabing, Verbryck, Woodruff. Thereupon the Honorable Chief Justice declared the senators-elect had duly qualified as members of the Senate. On motion of Mr. Hamlin, the Senate proceeded to the election of permanent officers. |
