Ir is the purpose of the editor of this volume to present a collection of the most characteristic Sermons, that were preached by the most celebrated divines, who occupied the American pulpits during the period extending from the Repeal of the Stamp Act, in 1766, through the Revolution, to the establishment of peace in 1783. The propriety of the publication of such a collection at the present time must be apparent to readers of all classes. The universal assertion that "the preachers of the Revolution did not hesitate to attack the great political and social evils of their day," demands a support, which nothing but the reproduction of their strong, practical appeals, can afford.
