It is easily possible in view of the prograss of mechanical invention, the great increase in capital, and the rapid strides in transportation improvement, to depict a very pleasing picture of future economic life. But in spite of such advancement it still remains true, that the major ills of life are still with us and their solution constitutes problems which have only lightly been touched upon. Poverty, sickness, and death still triumph over man. All hail to any plan which in genuine fashion strikes at the root of such problems. When the United Order is again attempted by the Mormon people, let us hope that it may be under more favorable conditions, and with a fairer chance to prove its worth than was provided in Missouri in 1831-34. A new economic order, in which industrial equality predominates, needs a strong welding force to knit the people together and hold them to their course, particularly through the early stages of transition. The religious motive provided such a bond for the Mormon people during the severe struggle for existence which was involved in the conquest of the arid West. Will this same bond be sufficiently strong to accomplish a like result when the effort is renewed to establish the United Order? If so, it is not impossible that these people will yet add another great element to human liberty. Religious freedom is here. Political freedom, in theory, is here. Industrial equality without which there cannot be genuine democracy is not here. Where are we to look for that plan and that leadership which will make practical demonstration of its feasibility?

BIBLIOGRAPHY-COLLECIONS

Since a number of bibliographies on books relating to Mormonism have been published it seems unnecessary to add a duplicate list in this volume. In a bulletin issued by the New York Public Library in 1909, vol. 13, pp. 183-239, there appears a very satisfactory compilation, including bibliography, periodicals and newspapers, general works, and works by seceding organizations. Theodore Schroeder includes a limited bibliography in his Authorship of the Book of Mormon, 1919. In view of the fact that no adequate list is available since 1909, a bibliography is added which contains a somewhat more complete list on the more important books that have appeared in recent years. Only a limited number of articles printed in periodicals is included.

The most important collections of works pertaining to Mormonism are.

The Berrian, and Ford collections, N. Y. Public Library, N. Y. C., N. Y.
