VERSAILLES RACES.

THE first day's racing, on the 9th of June, commenced with a Prize of 2000f., given by the Directeur des Haras, for three-year-olds and upwards, heats, twice round, two miles and a half, which was contended for by the Duke of Orleans' br. h. Nautilus (E. Pavis) and Lord H. Seymour's b. h. Vendredi (Hardy), both 4 yrs.-The first heat was won easily by His Royal Highness, but for the second Vendredi ran his opponent to half a length, and for the last hundred yards Pavis was put to his mettle, and it was doubtful "who should."

Count Hedouville's ch. h. Mendicant, aged, 129fb. (Mizen), beat M. A. Fould's b. m. Barbarina, 4 yrs, 112ft. (D. Jones), very easily by a length, for a Sweepstakes of 500f., h. ft., for English horses, twice round; the mare the favorite at 5 to 4-M. A. Lupin's b. m. Despair drawn.

Match for £50-M. A. Fould's b. c. Auriel, by Royal Oak out of Burlesque, 110fb. (D. Jones), beat M. Sabattier's br. f. La Grippe, by Royal Oak out of Indiana (Mizen), both two-year-olds, three-quarters of a mile.—The colt was the favorite at 3 to 1, and he fully justified the opinion formed of his capabilities. He started off at score, and soon took the shine out of the filly, finally passing the winning post in an easy canter.

For the Glatigny Stakes of 1000f. each, Romulus, Francesca, and Chip-of-the-Old-Block, paid h. ft. to Lord H. Seymour's b. c. Lantara, who walked over.

A Prize of 1200f. given by the Town, the winner to be sold for 2000f., once round, brought three to the post, Lord H. Seymour having drawn Lady Emily-Mr. T. Carter's b. c. Bonbon, by Royal Oak, 3 yrs (Flatman); Count Blangy's b. c. Actaeon, by Royal Oak, 3 yrs (Mizen); and Duke of Orleans' b. m. Viola, by Emilius, 4 yrs (E. Pavis). The betting was 6 to 4 on Bonbon, and 2 to 1 agst Viola. The latter took the lead, and kept it to the last turn, when both colts came up and passed her, and an excellent race between the two terminated in favor of Bonbon, who was claimed.

The programme for the second day (June 16) shewed a list of seven races, and the company was far more numerous than on the 9th. The first event was a Prize of 2400f. given by the Town for threeyear-olds and upwards, twice round, for which four entered, but Fortunatus and Coalition having been drawn, it resolved itself into a Match, if that can so be called in which one of the competitors had no chance-Lord H. Seymour's b. c. Lantara, 3 yrs (Flatman), having very easily disposed of the Duke of Orleans' br. c. Roquancourt, 3 yrs (E. Pavis), winning without an effort by four lengths.

The second race was for the Jockey Club Prize of 3000f., for threeyear-olds, heats, once round, but for which only two appeared-Lord H. Seymour's b. c. Chip-of-the-Old-Block (Hardy) and the Duke of Orleans' ch. f. Stella (E. Pavis).-Chip was the favorite at 3 to 1, and won the first heat easily. Indeed the second was ditto repeated; but Pavis substantiated a cross, which was palpable to all, and the Stake was awarded to Stella, Chip in consequence being declared distanced.
