in me, ftill dwell fuch fearful remains of finful corruption: Let me cry mightily to God, for the fubduing and destruction thereof.

THE

HE heav'ns God's glory do declare:
the fkies his hand-works preach.
2 Day utters fpeech to day, and night
to night doth knowledge teach.

3 There is no fpeech, nor tongue, to which
their voice doth not extend.

4 Their line is gone through all the earth,
their words to the world's end.

5

In them he fet the fun a tent,

Who bridegroom-like forth goes>
From's chamber, as a strong man doth
to run his race, rejoice.

6 From heav'n's end is his going forth,
cireling to th' end again:

And there is nothing from his heat
that hidden doth remain.

7 God's law is perfect, and converts
the foul in fin that lies:
God's teftimony is most fure,
and makes the fimple wife.

8 The statutes of the Lord are right,
and do rejoice the heart:
The Lord's command is pure, and doth
light to the eyes impart.

9 Unfpotted is the fear of God,

and doth endure for ever:

The judgments of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.

10 They more than gold, yea, much fine gold,
to be defired are:

Than honey, honey from the comb

that droppeth, fweeter far.

11 Moreover, they thy fervant warm
how he his life fhould frame:
A great reward provided is
for them that keep the fame.
12 Who can his errors understand?
O cleanfe thou me within
13 From fecret faults. Thy fervant keep-
from all prefumptuous fin.

And do not fuffer them to have
dominion over me:

Then righteous and innocent

I from much fin fhall be..

14 The words which from my mouth proceed, the thoughts fent from my heart, Accept, O Lord, for thou my ftrength. and iny Redeemer art.

PSAL M XX.

To the chief Mufician, A' Pfalm of David. Probably, this Pfalm was compofed, to be a prayer for fuc cefs, in fome particular expedition of David's wars. Here (1) The People pray for their king; that God would grant him his requests; protect, affift, and strengthen him, in his work; accept his oblations; and fucceed his projects for the public welfare, ver. 1-4. (2) They triumph in God, as their only ftrength and deliverer, in whom they fhall be more than conquerors, ver. 5, 6.Let not me forget Jefus, for whom prayer is made continually-Jefus, who fhall daily be praised; and whom the Father heareth always; accepts his facrifice, and crowns him with glory and honour. And let.no creature, but JEHOVAH as my God in Chrift, be the ground, and the object, of all my faith and expectation.

EHOVAH hear thee in the day

when trouble he doth fend:

And let the name of Jacob's God.
thee from all ill defend.

2 O let him help fend from above,
out of his fanctuary;

From Sion his own holy hill,
let him give strength to thee.

3 Let him remember all thy gifts, accept thy facrifice;

4 Grant thee thine heart's wifh, and fulfil thy thoughts and counfel wife.

5 In thy falvation we will joy;

in our God's name we will Display our banners: and the Lord thy prayers all fulfil.

6. Now know I, God his king doth fave he from his holy heav'n

Will hear him, with the faving strength
by his own right hand giv'n.
7 In chariots fome put confidence,
fome horfes truft upon:

But we remember will the name
of our Lord God alone.

8. We rife, and upright ftand, when they
are bowed down, and fall.
9: Deliver, Lord, and let the King
us hear when we do call..

PSALM XXI.

To the chief Mufician, A Pfalm of David.

In this Song of thanksgiving, obferve (1) All the joys, the honours, and happiness, of King David, founded in the perfections and gracious works of God, ver. 1,-6, (2) Full affurance of the stability, of David's throne, and of the difcovery and destruction of his implacable oppofers, ver. 7,—12. (3) Earneft fupplications to God, for the exhilerating difplays of his glory and power, ver. 13,But chiefly, my foul, behold here, the everlafting honours, joys, happiness, and blifsful influences of thy Redeemer! Behold how fixed is his kingdom and dignity, in the infinite, everlasting, and unchangeable, wildom, power, mercy, equity, goodness and truth of the Moft High! Behold, what inexpreffible vengeance kindles upon and destroys his Jewith;-his Heathen;-his Antichriftian; and other incorrigible foes!Rejoice, my foul, in this God thy Saviour. Rejoice at the glory wherewith he is crownedat the life granted to, and lodged in him; and in his being made bleffings for evermore to MEN,-Bleffings for evermore to ME. And, let the ruinous overthrow of his Jewish or other

enemies, make me stand in awe to provoke him, by prefump tuous refufal of him, or rebellion against him.

THER

HE king in thy great ftrength, O Lord,
fhall very joyful be:

In thy falvation rejoice

how veh❜mently thall he?

2 Thou hait beltowed upon him
all that his heart would have,

And thou from him didit not with-hold
whate'er his lips did crave.

3 For thou with bleffings him prevent'st
of goodness manifold;
And thou haft fet upon his head-
a crown of purest gold.
When he defired life of thee,

5

thou life to him didst give;

Ev'n fuch a length of days, that he
for evermore fhould live.

In that falvation wrought by thee,
his glory is made great:
Honour and comely majefty
thou haft upon him fet.

6 Because that thou for evermore
moft bleffed haft him made :

And thou haft with thy countenance:
made him exceeding glad..

Because the king upon the Lord,
his confidence doth lay,

And, thro' the grace of the most High,

fhall not be mov'd away.

8 Thine hand fhall all thofe men find out, that en'mies are to thee,

9

Ev'n thy right hand fhall find out those
of thee that haters be..

Like fiery ov'n thou fhalt them make,
when kindled is thine ire:

God fhall them fwallow in his wrath,
devour them shall the fire.

To Their fruit from earth thou fhalt deftroy, their feed men from among.

I For they, beyond their might, 'against thee did plot mifchief and wrong.

12 Thou therefore fhalt make them turn back when thou thy fhafts fhall place

Upon thy ftrings, made ready all
to fly against their face.

13 In thy great pow'r and ftrength, O Lord
be thou exalted high:

So fhall we fing with joyful hearts,
thy power praise fhall we.

PSALM

XXI..

To the chief Mufician upon Aijeleth Shahar

APfalm of David..

Here the debasement and exaltation of David, king of Ifrael, are merely fübfervient to, and figurative of, the debasement and exaltation of Jefus Chrift, our bleffed AIJELETH SHAHAR, Hind of the morning. [] In this deep debasement, we find (1) Bitter, but kindly and believing, complaints of God's withdrawment,-attended with earnest attempts of faith to quiet the complainer's foul under it,drawn from the confide ration of God's holiness and highnefs, and his feasonable deli. verance of his people in former times, when they cried to him, ver. 1,5 (2) Bitter complaints of men's reproaches, and contemptuous derition, attended" with felf-encouragements, drawn from former experience of God's early and feasonable care and friendship, ver. 6,--10. (3) Bitter complaints of the number and rage of enemies, attended with exquifite agonies of body and mind, and mingled with earnest prayers for God's fpeedy fupports, aífiftance, and powerful deliverance, While I fing thefe, ièt me behold the vilenefs, the criminality, the deftructive influence, of fin! Let me behold the fovereignty of God, who not only fcourgeth every fon whom he receiveth, but fpared not his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, but delivered him up for us all! Behold, how he hates! How he punifheth our fin! And what manner of love he bestowed upon us, that we might be called the fons of God! Behold! how he commendeth his love unto us, in that, while we were yet finners, Chrift died for us! And if Jefus, with patience bore fuch defertion, reproach, and diftrefs, let me, in
