And when our armies do go forth,
thou go'll not with the fame.

10 Thou mak'ft us from the enemy,
faint-hearted to turn back :

And they who hate us, for themselves
our poils away do take.

11 Like fleep for meat thou gavest us :
'mongit heathen caft we be.
12 Thou didit for nought thy people fell
their price enrich'd not thec.
13 Thou mak'it us a reproach to be
unto our neighbours near;
Derifion and a fcorn to them
that round about us are.

14 A by-word alfo thou doft us.
among the heathen make:
The people in contempt and fpite,
at us their heads do fhake.

45 Before me my confufion
continually abides;

And of bafhful countenance

my

the flame me ever hides.

16 For voice of lim that doth reproach,
and fpeaketh blafphemy;

By reafon of th' avenging foe,
and cruel enemy.

17 All this is come on us, yet we
have not forgotten thee;

Nor fallly in thy covenant
behav'd qurfelves have we.

18 Back from thy way our heart not turn'd; our steps no ftraying made.

19 Tho' us thou brak it in dragons' place, and cov'redit with death's fhade.

20 If we God's name forgot, or stretch'd to a strange God our hands:

21 Shall not God fearch this out? for he hearts fecrets underftands.

22 Yea, for thy fake we're kill'd all day, counted as flaughter-fheep.

23 Rife, Lord, caft us not ever off;
awake, why doft thou fleep?

24 O wherefore hideft thou thy face?
forgett'it our cafe diftrefs'd,
25 And our oppreffion? For our foul
is to the duft down prefs'd;

Our belly alfo on the earth,

faft cleaving hold doth take.

26 Rife for our help, and us redeem, ev'n for thy mercies' fake.

To the chief Mufician upon Shofhannim, for the fons of Korah, Mafchil, A Song of loves.

In this SONG OF LOVES, are celebrated (1) The glories of Jesus our Redeemer, particularly the tranfcendent comeinefs, and bleffednefs of his perfon, Gd-man: His almighty power, in conquering his people, and destroying his enemies ;-the eternity, firmaels, and equity of his government ;—his royal unction with the holy Ghost above meafure; and his fitnefs for his work; and the fplendor of his court, ver. 1,-). (2) The glories of the redeemed, their litening to Jefus propofals of marriage-union with himself; their renunciation of all others, for his fake; their reverential fubmiffion to, and worship of him, ver 10, 11,their glorious ornainents of righteoufnels and grace; and their glorious entrance into the new covenant, and the eternal itate, ver. 12,15,-their glorious fucceffion and work, for perpetuating the fame of the Redeemer, ver. 16, 17.In finging this Song

of the Lamb, Let me with open face, behoid his glory, and be changed into the fame image from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Loid. Let my admiration of his excellency fwell to the brim; and my love burn with a moft vehement flame; and let my hopes of being for ever, with him, be strong and lively. Let my heart be all wonder at his excellency, fulness, and grace; and all fubjection to his government and laws; and my lips filled with his praife and honour all the day.

I

MY

Y heart brings forth a'goodly thing; my words that I indite, Concern the King: my tongue's a pen

of one that fwift doth write.

2 Thou fairer art than fons of men: into thy lips is ftore

3

Of grace infus': God therefore thee
hath blefs'd for evermore.

O thou that art the mighty One,
thy fword gird on thy thigh:
Ev'n with thy glory excellent
and with thy majesty.

4 For mecknels, truth and righteoufnefs, in ftate ride profp'roufly:

And thy right hand fhall thee instrust
in things that fearful be.

5 Thine arrows fharply pierce the hearts
of th' enmies of the King;
And under thy subjection
the people down do bring.
and for ever is,

6 For

ever

O God, thy throne of might:
The fceptre of thy kingdom is
a fceptre that is right.

7 Thou lovet right; and hateft ill:
for God, thy God moft high,
Above thy fellows hath with th' oil
of joy anointed thee.

8 Of aloes, myrrh, and caffia,

a fmell thy garments had; Out of the iv'ry palaces,

whereby they made thee glad.

9 Among thy women honourable, king's daughters were at hand; Upon thy right-hand did the queen, in gold of Ophir fand.

to O daughter, hearken and regard,
and do thine ear incline;
Likewife forget thy father's house, '
and people that are thine.

11 Then of the King defir'd fhall be
thy beauty veh❜mently:
Because he is thy Lord, do thou
him worship rev'rently.
12 The daughter there of Tyre fhall be
with gifts and off 'rings great:
Thofe of the people that are rich,
thy favour fhall intreat.

13 Behold, the daughter of the King
all glorious is within;

And with embroideries of gold her garments wrought have been. 14 She shall be brought unto the King in robes with needle wrought: Her fellow-virgins following,

fhall unto thee be brought.

15 They fhall be brought with gladhefs great, and mirth on ev'ry fide, Into the palace of the king

and there they fhall abide.

16 Instead of thofe thy fathers dear,

thy children thou may'it take, And in all places of the earth them noble princes make.

17 Thy name remember'd I will make,
through ages all to be:

The people therefore evermore
fhall praises give to thee.

ANOTHER OF THE SAME.

Y heart inditing is

MY

good matter in a fong:

I fpeak the things that I have made,
which to the King belong:
My tongue fhall be as quick
his honour to indite,
As is the pen of any feribe
that ufeth falt to write.

2 Thou'rt fairest of all men,

grace in thy lips doth flow: And therefore bleflings evermore on thee doth God bestow. 3 Thy fword gird on thy thigh, thou, that art most of might: Appear in dreadful majesty, and in thy glory bright. For meeknefs, truth, and right, ride profp'roully in itate: And thy right-hand fhall teach to thee things terrible and great. 5 Thy fhafts fhall pierce their hearts that foes are to the King,

Whereby into fubjection

the people thou shalt bring.

6 Thy royal feat, O Lord, for ever fhall remain:

The fceptre of thy kingdom doth all righteoufnefs maintain. 7 Thou lov't right, and hat'ft ill: for God, thy God moft high, Above thy fellows hath with th' oil of joy anointed thee.
