Into his prefence let us haßte,
To thank him for his favour past:
To him address in joyful songs
The praise that to his name belongs.

For God, the Lord, enthron'd in ftate,
Is with unrival'd glory great;

A king fuperior far to all

Whom kings on earth we mortals call.

O let us to his courts repair,

And bow with adoration there :
Down on our knees devoutly all
Before the Lord our Maker fall.
For he's our God, our fhepherd he,
His flock and pafture fheep are we :
Then let us (like his flock) draw near,
His gofpel's facred truth to hear.

PSALM C.

WITH one confent let all the earth

To God their chearful voices raife;

Glad homage pay with awful mirth,
And fing before him fongs of praise.
Convinc'd that he is God alone,

From whom both we and all proceed;
We, whom he chufes for his own,

The flock that he vouchfafes to feed.

O enter

O enter then his temple gate,

Thence to his court devoutly press,
And still your grateful hymns repeat,
And ftill his name with praises blefs.
For he's the Lord fupremely good;
His mercy is for ever fure:

His truth, which always firmly stood,
To endless ages shall endure.

[blocks in formation]

Render thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love;
Whofe mercy firm thro' ages paft
Has ftood, and fhall for ever last.
Who can his mighty deeds exprefs.
Not only vaft, but numberless?
What mortal eloquence can raise
His tribute of immortal praife?

Happy are they, and only they,
Who from thy judgments never ftray:
Who knows what's right,-not only fo,
But always practice what they know.
Extend to me that favour, Lord,

Thou to thy chofen doft afford;
When thou return'ft to fet them free,
Let thy falvation vifit me!

O may I worthy prove to fee
Thy faints in full prosperity;

And count thy people's triumph mine.

PSALM CXVI.

Y foul with grateful thoughts of love
Entirely is poffeft;

Because the Lord vouchfaf'd to hear

The voice of my request.

Since he has now his ear inclin'd,

I never will defpair;

But ftill in all the ftraits of life,
To him address my pray'r.

When death alarm'd me, he remov'd
My dangers and my fears;

My feet from falling he fecur'd,

And dry'd my eyes from tears.

Then, free from penfive cares my foul

Refume thy wonted reft;

For God has wond'rously to thee
His bounteous love expreft.

The future years of fleeting life,
Which God to me shall lend,
Will I in praises to his name,
And in his service spend.

PART XIV.

O me, O Lord, thy grace reftore,
That I again may live ;

Whose foul can relish no delight,

But what thy precepts give.

In thy bleft ftatutes let my heart
Continue always found;

That guilt and shame (the finner's lot)
May never me confound.

My foul with long expectance hopes,
To fee thy faving grace;
And still on thy unerring word
My confidence I place.

Thy wonted kindness, Lord, restore,
To cheer my drooping heart;
That from thy righteous ftatutes I,
May never more depart.

PSALM CXXX. :

ROM lowest depths of woe,

FROM
To God I fent my cry;

Lord hear my fupplicating voice,
And graciously reply.

Should't thou feverely judge,

Who can the trial bear?

-

But thou forgiv'ft, left we defpond,
And quite renounce thy fear.

[blocks in formation]

My foul with patience waits

For thee the living Lord;

My hopes are on thy promise built,
Thy never-failing word.

My longing eyes look out,

For thy enliv❜ning ray ;

More duly than the morning watch,

To spy the dawning day.

Let Ifr'el truft in God,

No bounds his mercy knows;

The plenteous fource and spring from whence

Eternal fuccour flows.

Whofe friendly ftreams to us

Supplies in want convey;

A healing spring, a fpring to cleanfe,
And wash our guilt away.

PSALM CXXXVI.

O God, the mighty Lord,
Our joyful thanks repeat ;

To him the praise afford,
Whose mercies are so great.

For God doth prove
Our conftant friend;
His boundless love

Shall never end.
