NOTE. In the Stationers' Registers (Arber II. 536) the first entry relative to the 'Faerie Queene' is as follows: "Primo Die Decembris, [1589.] Mafter Ponsonbye. Entered for his Copye, a book intytuled the fayre Queene dyfpofed into xij bookes, &c. Aucthoryfed vnder thandes of the Archbishop of CANTERBERY and bothe the wardens. .. vjd." This was published accordingly in 1590. The title-page thus runs : Notwithstanding the title-page, which announces volume contained only is as follows: "twelue books," the "three " books. The next entry (Arber III. 57) "20° die Januarij [1596] Master Ponsonby. Entered for his Copie vnder the handes of the Wardens, The fecond parte of the ffairy Quene conteining the 4. 5. and 6. bookes vjd." This was published in 1596 (4to, A-Kk 4 in eights).
