1 God of mercy, God of love,
Hear our sad repentant song ;
2 Deep regret for follies past,
Talents wasted, time misspent ;
Thankless for the blessings lent: 3 Foolish fears, and fond desires,
Vain regrets for things as vain ;
Oft to murmur and complain : 4 These, and every secret fault,
Filled with grief and shame, wę own;
Seeking pardon from thy throne. 5 God of mercy, God of grace,
Hear our sad repentant songs ;
1 BLEST Instructer, from thy ways
Who can tell how oft he strays ?
2 Let my tongue, from error free,
Speak the words approved by thee;
Let my thoughts accepted rise. 3 While I thus thy name adore,
And thy healing grace implore,
L. M. 61, Wesley's Col. 1 Forgive us, for thy mercy's sake,
Our multitude of sins forgive!
Our faith by our obedient love.
And all thy-mighty wonders show!
WATTS, 1 Show pity, Lord; O Lord, forgive;
Let a repenting rebel live :
May not a sinner trust in thee?
The power and glory of thy grace :
3 0 wash my soul from every sin,
And make my guilty conscience clean ;
And past offences pain mine eyes.
Whose hope still hovering round thy word,
MONTGOMERY 1 O God of grace, we come to thee,
With broken, contrite hearts;
Truth in the inward parts :2 Give deep humility :-the sense
Of godly sorrow give;
To hear thy voice and live ;-
Though mercy long delay ;
And trust thee, though thou slay.
Thus strengthened with all might,
Shall pray, and pray aright.
MONTGOMERY. 1 Return, my soul, unto thy rest,
From vain pursuits and maddening cares;
2 Return unto thy rest, my soul,
From all the wanderings of thy thought;
Safe through a thousand perils brought. 3 Yes, to thy rest, my soul, return,
From passions every hour at strife;
Lay hold upon eternal life.
To keep his word, that word believe;
Whose sins are covered o'er !
Imputes their guilt no more!
2 They mourn their follies past,
And keep their hearts with care ;
Shall prove their faith sincere. 3 While I concealed my guilt,
1 felt the festering wound; Till I confessed my sins to thee,
And ready pardon found. 4 Let sinners learn to pray,
Let saints keep near the throne ;
Is found in God alone.
1 Thou Lord of all above
And all below the sky,
And for thy mercy cry. 2 Guilt, like a heavy load,
Upon my conscience lies;
And raise my weeping eyes. 3 The burden which I feel,
Thou only canst remove;
And thy unbounded love. 4 One gracious look of thine
Will ease my troubled breast; 0, let me feel my sins forgiven,
And I shall then be blest.
1 Times without number have I prayed,
This only once forgive ;
And suffered me to live.
Lord, to my heart restore;
And bid me sin no more.
