THE faid Antony of Venero, being upon the Racke examined what other Perfons might have hadde Intelligence of this Enterprise, faieth, no other than thofe whome he hath aforenamed.

Being demaunded whether Andrew de la Maffa, Peter of Orofco, Peter della Penna, or Valentine de Meurs knew nothing of the faide Enterprise, he faieth, no.

Being demaunded whether he remembreth not that when fome Speeche and Argument paffed at the faide Annaftro his Maifters Table, whether for Zeale of Religion it were lawful to flay his Excellencie, the Monke Antony Timmerman didde then affirme, that it might lawfully be done without Sinne. Being demaunded whether he knoweth not who he was that was on Horsebacke before the Castle when the Deede was executed? He faith, no.

Antony Timmerman born in Dunkirke of the Age of one and thirtie Yeares, fometimes Monke of the Order of the White Friers, having his Chamber in the long Newstreete at the Golden Horse.

Being demaunded what Acquaintance he hath in the Houfe of Jasper of Annaftro, fayeth that divers Times he hath faid Maffe in the House of the faid Annaftro, also that he hath fent others thither for the fame Purpose, and that therefore he had his finding as Chapleine to the Spanish Nation, and that the faide Annaftro paide him.

Being demaunded what private Communication he hathe had with one John Jaureguy a Spaniard of Biscay in the Houfe of the fayde Annaftro, faith, that the faide Jaureguy upon Friday laft came to him to fhrift, defiring alfo to receive the Sacrament at his Hande, whiche he miniftred unto him, for the which the faid Party gave him two double Piftolets of Gold, defiring the faid Confeffour to pray for him. Alfo that according to the Description of his Stature and Apparel that he ware, it feemeth to be the fame Perfon, who uppon Sundaye at Noone difcharged a Dagge againfte his Excellencies Perfon.

Being demaunded, what the faide Jaureguy gave him to understande concerning this Deede, either in his Confeffion, or before or after the fame: alfo whether he did not fhewe him what he was promised for the Performance of that Act, faith, that the faid Jaureguy did confeffe unto him, that the faid Fafper of Annaftro woulde himselfe have done it, if he could not have perfwaded him thereto: faying moreover that he woulde execute the faide Deede the fame Frydaye at Dinner, and that onlie for the Glory of God, and because his Father being an olde Man fhould be releeved.

Being demaunded, whether he told not the fayd Confeffor in what Place he was purpofed to doe this Deede, and with what Weapons: fayth, that he told him that he purposed to doe it at the Table as he thought, but fhewed him not with what Weapons.

Being demaunded, whether the fayd Confeffor did finally abfolve the fayd Jaureguy, fo as he might execute his pretended Deede, which afterward he committed against the Perfon of his Excellencie: Confeffeth that he abfolved the fayde Jaureguy in this Manner: That if he did not execute it for Lucre of Money, but onelie for the Glorye of God and of a Zeale to the Catholike Romane Religion, that then it was lawful for him to doe it, giving him thereupon Abfolution, having nevertheleffe before reprefented to his View all fuche Daungers as might fpring forth of the fayd Deede.

Being demaunded, whether he enquired of Jareguy if any other were able to utter the Pretence of the Execution of the fayd Deede: fayth, that he shewed him that no Man was able to fay any Thing thereof, but onely the faid Jafper Annaftro, Antony of Venero, and an other Man a Spanyard, whome he named not, either by Name or Surname: but that the faide Confeffor geffeth that it was a young Man, whome he had often feene aboute the fame Time comming and going to the fame Houfe: the faide young Man being reafonable tall of Stature, with a blacke Bearde cut after the Spanishe Maner, of a browne pale Colour, long and leane vifaged, aboute 24. or 25. Yeares of Age, as it feemed, wearing ordinarily a Spanish Caffock of a gray Ruffet, and a blacke Cloake.

Being demaunded, what Speech paffed betweene the faide Confeffor and the faid Jasper of Annaftro, touching this Deed committed against his Excellencie, faieth, that the fayde Annastro never spake any Thing therof, either in Shrifte, or otherwise.

Being demaunded, whether the faide Jaureguy fhewed him not, that Va lentine de Meurs, Anthony Waechmans, and Anna Haecht, Servantes in the faide Annaftroes Houfe, knewe nothing of the Practice or Effecte of the faide Deede attempted againfte his Excellencie, faieth, that the Perfons aforenamed, knewe nothing thereof as the faid Jaureguy tolde him, and declared in his Confeffion.

Being demaunded, whether the faid Annaftro, Jaureguy or Antony of Venero, faid not unto him, that the King hadde by John of Yjunça made greate Promises to the faid Annaftro, for the performing of the Deede against his Excellencie, faith, that he never knew or heard that of any Body.

Being demaunded, whether he the faid Confeffor hathe not aforetime bene in the House of the faid Annaftro, when fitting at the Table, he was demaunded, whether it were lawfull for any Manne without Offence, to flay his Excellencie: what aunfweare was made thereto, when it was, and who were there prefent, declareth, that the faide Annaftro hath fundrie Times moved that Question to him: and namely at the Table in Dinner Time, or fo foone as the Table was taken up, either the firfte or feconde Saterday before Candiemaffe, and that there were then prefent Andrew de la Maça, Antony of Venero, and Valentine de Meurs: and that hee this Confeffor anfwered, that no particular or private Person mighte doe it, but that it pertained onely to the Juftice. Whereto the faide Annaftro (as he remembreth) replied, that the King being a publike Perfon might commaund an other to doe it: whereuppon this Confeffor faide, that it was not lawfull for any Man with Money to buy an others Life. He declared farther, that about foureteene Dayes fince, he the faide Confeffour being at the Table, or else foone after they were risen, hearde the faide Annaftro use these or fuche like Wordes: Valla me dios no at en esta tierra Flamenco que fe atreva a efte Principe de Oranges? whereto he the fayde Confeffo replied, faying: Los Flamencos no fon tan furiofos como vos otros, where the faid Maça was not then prefent, but was departed into Holland.

OOD Brother, Yefterday I wrote unto you from Bruges, and I arrived heere two Hours fince, but cannot yet finde M. Peter of Cubiaur, either heare anie other Newes of him: but that a Master of a Ship fhewed me, that about eight Daies fince there was one like him that paffed from Dover to Callis. Very unwilling I am to goe to Callis least lofing my Time I fhal not come foone inough home. Beides the Wind being contrarie I cannnot depart this Day, but to morrow being Saterday, if it please God I fhal. I humbly greete Mafter Anthonie Spinula and am very defirous to returne home. I alfo humbly greete Andrew Mafa. I pray you fet to your Hand to any Thing that is to be done before my Returne, as well for Writings and Affignations, as for any other Matter. For my part I will make as much Haft as I may. You fhall presently pay Ferdinand of Nagera the 402. Can finde by reafon of the Shortneffe of the Time no other Remedie how to pay Baltaffar of Burgos the 402. Pounds, but to fhewe Ferdinande of Nagera, that I had Commiffion from the faid Burgos to deliver him the said 402. Pounds, and that you will prefently pay him and let Valentine pay him the Mony, taking of him two Acquittaunces, the one copied out of the other, wherin he must confeffe that you doe deliver the fame unto him by the Appointment of Baltaffar of Burgos, then binde him to make them good to the faid Baltaffar of Burgos, and fo may Burgos helpe himfelfe to his owne Commoditie. Doe this immediatly, and even fo foone as you have received thefe Prefents, before the Matter be performed, for I fee no other Meanes how they may come to his Hands, wherefore I praye you heartelye let this be done this prefent Munday. Nagera will fay that he hath no fuch Warrant: then fhall ye aunfwere him that the Man is Troublesome, and that you wil not ftay for that, feeing I have fo commaunded you, and that Burgos is deftitute of Money.
