I do with my whole Minde and Hearte, commende me to the AungellSaint Gabriel, to the Ende, that nowe and ever he may be my Mediatour to our Lorde Jefus Chrift and to his moft pretious Sonne, and to the Virgin Mary, and to all he Saincts and fhe Saints of the heavenly Court, that he will keepe and conduct me, and with his bleffed Hand uphold me from fodaine Death, and to graunt me Grace to attaine to the Effect of my good Zeale. Ntonio de Venero preso, hijo de Juan, Efpannol nafcido de Bilbao en Bifcaia, de edad de dies y nueve à veinte annos tentendo los libros de Gatper d'Annaftro, mercador Espanol, dize aver morado con el dicho Anaftro mas de dos annos.

Preguntado

Preguntado s'y no fave quien ha efcrito un papel o bilete muestrado à el declarante ballado fobre el muerto, el qual el domingo paffado ha tirado con un piftolete la perfona de fu Excellentia, el Principe d'Orange, commençando el dicho billette: Nueftro Sennor Jefu Chrifto, &c. Dize fer escrito por mano de Juan de Jaureguy.

Preguntado quien es el dicho Juan de Jaureguy? Dize fer Efpanol de Bilbao en Biscaya, fobrino de Pedro d'Orofco, mercader Efpannol en Brujas, el qual Juan vino morar con el dicho Anaftro cerca el mez de Julio pasado, aviendo mientres escrito y copiado las cartas del dicho Anaftro y lo que le mando.

Stendo al declarante muestrado el muerto y preg', fi aquel es Juan de Jaureguy fobredicho? Dize que fi, y que el aviendo el dicho Domingo oydo la miffa falio de cafa cerca las onze horas antes de comer, y avia entrada y falido la cafa tres o quatro vezes.

Preguntado quien avia dictado al dicho Juan el dicho billette? Dize que efta cierto que fe lo deve de aver dictado el dicho Anastro, por que el no tenia Juyzio para bazerlo de fi.

Seyendo preguntado fi no conofcia el pistolete, que le fué mostrado, con el qual es berido fu Excellentia por el dicho Jaureguy? Dize aver visto el mismo piftolete o femejante à el, passado feis mezes en cafa del dicho Anaftro, y que dicho Anaftro ba embiado otros tres como ellos en Efpanna, el uno à Don Fernando de Arieta, y el otro à Don Diego d'Alva, y el tercero à Pedro Lopez d'Arieta, fin que fabe quien los pueda aver fecho, quanto coftaron, o quien les pago, fea el dicho Anaftro o fu caxero.

Preguntado donde vienne, y quien ha hecho la vela de fera verde en que esta ab axo imprimido el fenal de la crux, que el dicho Jaureguy tenis fobre su cuerpo nado con una medailla del Salvador y la Imagen de Nueftra Sennoro Maria todo mueftrado à el declarante? Dize que es una de las velas que fe da à algun paffagero vifitando el Monafterio en Burgos en Efpana, adonde esta el Crucifixo, y la Imagen efta becha de los Jefuites en Madrid: pero no fave como el dicho Jaureguy ba cobrado lo fobredicho.

Preguntado que fueron las poftreras palabras que el dicho Juan ha tenido con el declarante? Dize que la poftrera vez que le hablo dixo que estava muy bien determinado para executar y accomplir fu emprefa, pues que fe avia confeffado, y que por ello feria bueno que el declarante te falvaffe, fobre que el declarante le refpondio que non favia adonde yr, o falvar fe: por eftar cargado de los libros y papeles del dicho Anaftro fu amo, y que por ello quedario cereo dellos como le avia prometido.

Preguntado à quien el dicho Jaureguy fe avia confeffado? Dize à cierto frayle llamado Padre Antonio.

Preguntado fi el dicho Padre Antonio non ha favido d'estu emprefa, quando, y parquien? Dize que el declarante no ha comunicado delle con el Padre Antonio, ny ba ouydo que ninguno en publico, ny fecreto aya comunicado con el falvo que el dicho Juan de Jaureguy le dixo que fe avia confeffado con el dicho Padre Antonio, y tratado d'efto negocio, y que eran en el Anaftro, Jaureguy y el declarante, y que le avia abfuelto dello.

Preguntado fi no fave fi el dico Gafpar de Anaftro o otro uvieffe femejante emprefa fobre la perfona de la Sereniff. Reyna de Inglaterra, o fobre la del Sereniff. Ducque de Anjou? Dize que piensa quo non.

Preguntado fi conofce la carta efcrita en Dunquercque à xvi. de Março, donde la fobrefcription y tenor le fue preleydo? Dize que fi, y fer efcrita por las proprias manos del dicho Anaftro: y tambien la otra carta ferrada en ella es fuya, y por el escrita.

Preguntado fi la carta efcrita en Grevelingues à xvii. d'efte mez de Março eftat tambien efcrita por el dicho Gafpar Anaftro? Dize que fi, y todo effo para que fe effectuaffe efta empresa como parefce por el contemdo d'ellas.

Preguntado fi el dicho Jaureguy no tenia alguncavallo prefto, o otro remedio para falvar fe defpues de aver cometido el delito? Dize, que no: pero que estava determinado de morir aviendo hecho el dicho efeto; y que era tan induzido del dicho Annaftro para bazer dicho efeto, que parefçia, que era encantando, y que yva muy alegremente, para bazerlo fuera la caza del dicho Anaftro defpues que avia oydo la miffa, y aviendo almorzando bibido un golpe de Bastardo.

Preguntado quien era el hombre à cavallo teniendo de dieftro otto cavallo enfilado pafeando fe al tiempo del dicho efetto delante la corte de fu Excell. Dize dello no faber nada y que libramente declarara la que dello fupiera, pues que tiene declarado lo que mas importa, y fennaladamente no fabe d'ello cofa alguna.

Seyendo propuesto al dicho declarante que oviefe de nombrar y mostrar todos que conofcia, o fabia que podrian aver fabido de la dicha empresa. Dize que perfona del mundo, ny de dentre ny de fuera d'efta villa fabe hablar de la dicha empreffa, mas que dicho declarante, y el dicho Jaureguy y Gafpar d'Annastro y Juan de Yfunca, y fu hijo Pedro de Yfunca.

Anthony de Venero Prifoner, the Sonne of John, a Spaniard born in Bilbao in

Biscay, of the Age of nineteen or twenty Yeres, Keeper of the Booke of Accompts of Jafper of Annaftro a Marchaunt and Spaniard borne, faith, that he hath dwelt with the fayd Annaftro about two Yeares.

Being asked whether he knew who writ a certaine Paper, or Remembraunce which was there fhewed to the fayde Anthonie, which Bill was founde about the dead Bodie of him who the Sunday before had discharged a Dagge against the Perfon of his Excellencie, the Prince of Orange, which Bill beganne, Our Lord Jefus Chrift, &c. He faith that J. Jaureguy writ it with his own Hande.

Being demaunded what that J. Jaureguy is? He faith he is a Spaniard of Bilbao in Biscay, the Coofin of Peter of Orofco Marchaunt and Spaniard borne, remaining at Bruges, which John came about the Moneth of July laft past, to dwel with the faid Annaftro, where hitherto he hath bin emploied in copying the Letters of the fayd Annaftro, and in whatsoever else he commaunded him.

The dead Corps being fhewed to the fayd Deponent, and he asked whether it were the aforefayd John Jaureguy? He fayth yea, and that the fayd John having the Sunday before heard Maffe, departed out of the House about Eleven of the Clocke before Noone, after he had three or foure Times gone out and in at the faid Houfe.

Being demaunded who penned the faide Bill for the fayd John: he fayth that the faide Bill fhould furely be, of the penning of the faid Annaftro, bicause the said John was not of Understanding fufficient to have done it.

Being demaunded whether he knew not the Dagge which was fhewed him, and wherewith the fayd Jaureguy wounded his Excellencie: He sayth that he hath feene the fame Dagge or the like of it above fixe Monethes fince in the House of the fayd Annaftro, who fent three others like the fame into Spaine. One to Don Ferdinand of Arieta, an other to Don Diego of Alva, and the third to Peter Lopes of Arieta: but he knoweth not who made them, how much they coft, either who payed for them, whether the fayd Annaftro or his Purfebearer.

Being demaunded, from whence came or who made the greene Waxe Candel, upon the nether Ende whereof the Signe of the Croffe was painted, which the fayd Jaureguy bare upon his naked Bodie together with a Quoine of the Saviour, and the Image of our Ladie Marie, all which was fhewed to the fayd Deponent, he faith that it is one of the Candels, which ufually are given to Pilgrimes when they vifite the Monafterie where the Crucifixe of Burgos in Spaine doth stand: and that the Jefuites made the Image at Madrid, but of whom the fayd Jaureguy had them he wotteth not.

Being demaunded what were the last Words that the faid John used unto the fayd Deponent: He fayeth that the last time he fpake with him he fayde unto him, that he was fully determined to execute and accomplish his Enterprife, confidering he was alreadie fhriven, wherefore it were good that the fayd Deponent faved himselfe. Whereunto the fayde Deponent aunswered, that he wift not whether to goe or where to fave himselfe, for that he stoode charged with his fayd Mafter Annaftros Bookes and Writings, and therefore that according to his Promise he woulde remaine with them.

Being demaunded to whom the fayde Jaureguy was fhriven, he faith to a certaine Monke named Father Antony.

Being demaunded whether the fayd Father Anthony knew of their Enterprife, when or by whom: he faith that he this Deponent never conferred with the fayd Father Antonie, neither knew that any other conferred with him either fecretely nor openly, except that the fayde John Jaureguy tolde him that he had confeffed himselfe to the fayd Father Anthony, and had conferred with him of this Matter, whereunto Annaftra, Jaureguy and he the Deponent were privy, and that he had abfolved him.

Being demaunded whether he knewe, whether the fayd Jasper Annaftro or any other had framed the like Practice against the most noble Queene of England, or against the most noble Duke of Anjou? fayth that he thinketh
