For FLORA has forfook the Plains

And is, alas! no more.

No more her Voice will charm the Woods,

Nor Ecchoing Lawns invite

The Sea-green Goddefs from the Floods,

Where once he took Delight.

Sweet PHILOMEL fhall chant her Tale,

While we her Beir bedew;

The Grief-tun'd Red-Breaft fills his Throat,

Where Notes of Sorrow flow,

And fobbing fwells his Feather'd Coat

In Sympathetick Woe.

To pleafe fond STREPHO N's Ear,
And ev'ry Spring fhall useless prove
But what flows from a Tear.

The well-fed Herd, and bleating Lambs

Shall now unheeded feed,

And Fawns likewife forfake their Dams,

As STREPHON has his Reed.

Each Stream and Spring must useless prove,

To please fond STREPHON's Ears

What else can his Attention move

When SILVIA's Voice he hears:

The well-fed Herd, and bleating Lambs

Muft now unheeded feed ;

STREPHON his Pipe, and Fawns their Dams

Muft leave for STLVIA's Reed.

In STVLIA's fweeter Breath indeed

For which each Day its fading Red

In Blushes it renews.

The Lillies then must change their Hue

When STLVIȚA shall appear;

And when her whiter Skin they view,

Grow pale with envying hér.

Then cull ye Nymphs your choiceft Flow'rs,

Like thofe in STLVIA's Face;

Of all their Laurels ftrip your Bow'rs
With which her Temples grace.
