GRANT & GRIFFITHS, (successors to J. HARRIS,) CORNER OF ST. PAUL'S CHURCH YARD.

THE COUNTRY HOUSE.

RAILROADS, STEAM-BOATS, and OTHER RAPID CONVEYANCES, which have added so largely to urban populations, have at the same time afforded the means to a numerous body, whose industry is carried forward in towns, of seeking for Health and Amusement in rural pursuits. Such now work in crowded cities, and live in quiet country-houses. The once limited population of convenient villages is thus doubled and quadrupled. The families of the Merchant and the Professional Man now inhabit the same hamlet, once inaccessible, where the Country-Gentleman, the Clergyman, and the Farmer, have customarily dwelt. It is to this numerous class, always moving from business to recreation, as well as to the settled country residents, that we address the small series, published at the cheapest rate, entitled "THE COUNTRY HOUSE." It will consist of SHILLING NUMBERS, will be completed in TWELVE NUMBERS, and will form THREE VOLUMES. The volumes will be thus arranged:

I.

THE DICTIONARY OF THE FARM,
By the Rev. W. L. RHAM.
Revised and adapted to the
present time.

THE DAIRY.

THE PIGGERY.
THE STABLE.

II. AND III.

THE SHEEP-FOLD.

THE POULTRY-YARD.

THE KITCHEN Garden and ORCHARD.
THE FLOWER GARDEN AND CONSERVATORY.
THE APIARY; &c.

THE WORK WILL BE PROFUSELY ILLUSTRATED WITH WOODCUTS.

"This (THE POULTRY YARD) is one of a series of useful 'Manuals' written in a plain and popular style, on the many adjuncts peculiar to a Country House.' It is, perhaps, one of the very best existing treatises on Poultry, inasmuch as it discards all the superfluous matter generally introduced in books, and which puzzles rather than assists an inquiring reader. The writer evidently understands his subject, and this stamps his observations with a value which otherwise they would not possess."-Gardeners' Chronicle, Dec. 20.
