TRUSTEES' REPORT.

To His Excellency, GOVERNOR SHERMAN, and the General Assembly: Since our last report, the Institution has largely increased, both in numbers and importance.

The State has been very liberal to us during the last period, except in the appropriation for a main building, and we are pleased to say we are able to make what we believe will be a very satisfactory showing for every dollar expended.

On the 24th day of May, 1882, Dr. O. W. Archibald severed his connection with this Institution, and his successor, the present incumbent, Dr. F. M. Powell, took possession as Superintendent. We have been highly gratified with the management and administration of Dr. Powell. He has devoted himself to the interest of this great charity, studied its wants, and mastered the many details connected with its successful management. We are especially pleased to commend the superior financial and economical control upon his part, which brought our support from the large balance against us to a balance in our favor on the 30th day of June last.

Dr. Powell has been ably seconded in his efforts by our Assistant Physician, Dr. A. C. Rogers.

During the last period our officers and help have remained substantially the same, except the change made in Superintendent and Matron, and the resignation of two of our teachers, Miss Van Doren and Miss Russell Mrs. Dora Moore and Miss Ella Frazee were chosen to fill the vacancies, to which number was added. Miss Ana Townsend, in compliance with the demand for more help in the school-room.

Our teachers have all been faithful, painstaking, and patient. The steady improvement of all classes committed to their charge is the strongest testimonial to their efficiency and competency. A success
