NEW AND POPULAR READINGS, RECITATIONS,
TABLEAUX, ETC., ETC.
J. W. SHOEMAKER, A. M.,
LATE PRESIDENT OF THE
Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1877, by
J. W. SHOEMAKER & co., In the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington, D.C.
THE change of date in the publication of the Annual, 1 from December 1st to July 1, has been made in order to adapt it more fully to the wants of schools, the school year usually ending about the last of June, at which time begin the selections of books, together with other arrangemeuts for the ensuing year.
Although the school furnishes but one of several important classes of persons for whom the Elocutionist's Aunual is designed, we are pleased to know that its adaptation to the wants of advanced classes, either as the only text-book, or as supplementary to the regular Reading series, has given it a place in many of the best schools, public and private, throughout the country.
We trust that the present issue may be no less deserying of their favor, and that at the same time it may provide as rich a feast for the Home Circle, the Amateur Reader, and the Professional Elocutionist as heretofore.
The special feature of the series, its adaptation to occasions, seasons and events, as well as to the various phases of Elocutionary expression, has proved so popular, that it has been observed as carefully in this as in the previous numbers.
J. W. SHOEMAKER. PHILADELPHIA,
July 1st, 1877.
