May 1 from ev'ry act abstain, That hurts, or gives my neighbour pain; That would abridge his happiness. Still may I feel my heart inclin'd To be the friend of all mankind; Still wish them safety, health, and ease, With pity let my breast o'erflow, Whene'er I meet a wounded heart. And let my neighbour's prosp'rous state His virtuous triumph let me join; Let love through all my conduct shine, THE PROPER RETURN FOR MATERNAL THY Mother honour-for her arms Secur'd thee from a thousand harms; Thoughtful of thee, before the day The mis'ries, that may all be thine. THE GRATEFUL TRIBUTE OF CHILDREN ON AGAIN the purple tide of health, That blessing dearer far than wealth, To Him let daily thanks ascend, Who sav'd our Parent and our Friend: Still let our voice in concert join DOMESTIC PEACE AND LOVE. HOW good and pleasant is the sight, How blest the house where hearts unite All in their proper stations move; How happy are the sons of peace! Here peace, like morning dew, distils While grateful joy each bosom fills, And every heart is love. THE YOUNG UNITING IN DEVOTIONAL EXERCISES. High in the shining courts above GOD reigns, the sovereign king; And Angels round his throne of love Sweet Hallelujahs sing, He smiles on every pious mind, And stoops their songs to hear: He sees where youthful hearts unite, And Jesus ever takes delight, Their conversation, and their prayers, His smiles dispel their gloomy cares, Oh! how they scorn those empty joys The shining of Jehovah's face, Allure them through the wilderness, To brighter joys above. Oh! did the young around but know How great their pleasures are; They would each golden joy forego, Such matchless bliss to share. THE GOLDEN RULE. COME, let us search our ways, and try ; Is the great rule of equity Our practice and delight? What we would have our neighbour do, Have we not found our envy grow, In all we sell and all we buy, Is honesty our guide ? Does thirst of gain, from virtue's path, Ne'er draw our feet aside ? Then may we raise our modest pray'r THE RIGHT USE OF PROSPERITY. MY gracious GOD! accept my pray'r ;: Should prosper my well meaning care, And wealth should e'er be mine; |
